హైదరాబాద్ తెలంగాణదే..Lagadapati on HMTV debate

Below is what Nehru said in his Nizamabad speech:
On 5th March, 1956 Jawaharlal Nehru declared at Nizamabad (Telangana) that the Government of India had decided to merge Telangana with Andhra. He also assured the Telangana people that “a masoom bachchi (Telangana),ek natkhat(Andhra) ke saath shadi ho raha hai. Kai din ke baad me ittefaq nahi hone ke vaje se talaq de sakte hain”. An innocent girl(Telangana) is being married off to a delinquent (Andhra). If they are not interested they could seek separation at a later day.

TJAC deadline ends. T-Congress leaders to wait till June 30!

The deadline set by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee for legislators to resign, ends on Saturday and there is confusion among MLAs of the Congress and the Telugu Desam about what they should do next.
Telangana Congress MPs, MLAs and ministers who met the Congress core committee members a few days ago in Delhi, have denied that there will be any resignations, as the finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, has assured them that within a week he will bring the Telangana issue to the notice of the party president.
But the one week has also gone by with no action from the central leadership. MPs Mr Madhu Yashki Gowd and Mr G. Vivekanand had told mediapersons in Delhi that they will wait for a response till June 30, after which they will sit together again and decide the future course of action, including an indefinite fast. Surprisingly, on Friday morning, only four Congress MPs turned up at the residence of Mr G. Vivekanand to discuss the situation. They later told news persons that the next meeting of the T-Congress leaders will be convened on July 1 to take stock of the situation.
Meanwhile, the Telangana TD Leaders’ Forum on Friday made it clear that they are ready to resign but put a rider that legislators and MPs from the Congress, TRS, and BJP should also resign on the same day to create a constitutional crisis. Who should resign first and what should be done next is the question haunting leaders of various parties.

Andhra politicians – Politics part-time, Businesses full-time!

India Today carried a report “Andhra Industrialists turning to politics to protect their interests” and reported on the myriad businesses sitting Andhra MPs/MLAs are engaged in, that directly benefit from their positions of power. Besides the well known businesses of YS Jaganmohan Reddy, N Chandrababu Naidu and Lagadapati Rajagopal, the magazine named others mentioned below.
MPs in businesses:
T. Subbarami Reddy – heads multi-crore industrial group, Gayatri Group of Industries
Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao - owns Progressive Constructions, which is involved in large- scale infrastructure projects across the country.
Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao – heads Transtroy Constructions, which is involved in similar multi- crore road projects.
Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, Congress MP from Ongole, is associated with United Breweries Group and is also chairman of Balaji Hotels, headquartered at Chennai.
Khammam MP N. N. Rao, TDP’s parliamentary party leader, owns Madhucon Group of companies – involved in irrigation projects, highways and granite units near Bellary in Karnataka.
Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and his MLA- brother Mekapati Chandrasekhara Reddy are also big- time contractors in the name of KMC Constructions.
Narasaraopet MP Modugula Venugopal Reddy is associated with Ramky Group, an infrastructure company.
State ministers in businesses
T. G. Venkatesh of Kurnool is a big industrialist who runs Rayalaseema Paper Mills and Rayalaseema Alkalis
Galla Aruna Kumari is the wife of Ramachandra N. Galla, chairman of Amararaja Group of Industries.
MLAs in businesses

Former minister P. Ramachandra Reddy
– owns PVR Constructions
Adala Prabhakar Reddy - heads APR Constructions

Balineni Srinivasa Reddy
– granite business
Adinarayana Reddy, G. Srikanth Reddy and Gurunath Reddy – various contracts and sub- contracts in irrigation and road works.
Uninterrupted power to this elite, especially for the MPs who have been around for decades in politics, have emboldened them to bend and break laws, especially in real-estate and government sponsored irrigation and infrastructure projects. They amassed the riches, the very base of which now threatens to be eroded by ‘losing political control’ over the golden goose – Hyderabad. Few days ago, Swaminathan S A Aiyar wrote in The Economic Times:
“Vast amounts of land around Hyderabad have been grabbed in questionable ways. In a new Telengana, many existing landowners — including major industrialists — may lose enormous tracts of land worth thousands of crores. Illegal land grabbing has till now been very lucrative, but may become the kiss of death after Telengana’s creation. All Indians love land, but in Andhra Pradesh it is a veritable passion . Coastal Andhras have engaged in an orgy of land speculation in the last decade. This passion for land ultimately caused the fall of Ramalinga Raju of Satyam: He lost his company because of his forays into real estate, through Maytas and other channels.”
Only yesterday, TEHELKA carried an article saying
“The Congress core committee is caught between the melodrama of the Telangana faction and the hardened business interests of the united Andhra faction that is staunchly opposing dividing the state. One of them is Kavuri Samba Siva Rao who heads a construction company with major investments in Hyderabad.”
About ‘Inefficient’ Telangana leadership and ‘Efficient’ Andhra leadership
Again, I heard the same argument that the ‘backwardness’ of Telangana is because of the ‘inefficiency’ of its political leadership. So, conversely the argument says that the Andhra leadership is ‘efficient’. While this is a very superficial and silly argument at best and a purely chauvinistic statement at the worst, now that it is so oft repeated, I ponder it over. Below are some questions, some of the ‘efficient’ leaders (read ‘those who oppose Telangana’) put up in Loksabha.

Conflict of interest of Andhra MPs:

According to India Today’s article ‘Business of the Day’, here are some of the questions the Andhra MPs posed in Lok Sabha and how the queries are intended to directly benefit their private businesses.
Sambasiva Rayapati Rao MP from Guntur asks “Whether the NHAI has recently sought comments of various stakeholders on hybrid models to implement highway projects. If so, the details thereof along with the views of the various parties involved.”
Mr. Rao owns the Jayalakshmi Group of companies which deals in tobacco, yarn, export of spices, production of electricity and construction of roads.
Kavuri Sambasiva Rao MP from Eluru asks “Whether the Government proposes to empower the NHAI to extend working capital loans to road developers to help them tie over credit crunch and maintain speedy implementation of road projects.”
Mr Kavuri as a builder is engaged in construction of major projects on irrigation, road, power and multi-storied urban housing complexes.
Rajagopal Lagadapati MP from Vijayawada asks “Whether the Central Government proposes to give some concessions to small power units generating 25 MW of power. If so, the details thereof; and if not, the reasons for not giving concessions.”
Mr Rajagopal is the founder chairman of the Lanco Group which has interests in construction, power and property business. Member of CoPU, his Group’s client list includes the NHAI.
Naama Nageswara Rao MP from Khammam asks “Whether the Government proposes to start eight-lane access control express highways. If so, the details thereof along with the locations where the expressways are proposed, state-wise and national highway-wise.”
Mr Rao is Non-executive chairman of Madhucon, his Group has the NHAI and Indian Oil Corporation on its client list. He is also a member of the Committee on Public Undertakings.
Well, if this and the skill showed by YSRs and Chandrababus in building business empires is ‘efficiency’, neither Telangana nor anyone in the rest of India would seek it. They are better off being ‘inefficient’
How a larger state benefited the plutocrats
The real conflict of interest for these MLAs/MPs come not just when they ask questions that directly benefit their businesses but when they sit on the parliament’s standing committees related to finance, business and industry. As per the parliament’s website, these committees are supposed to be “a path-breaking endeavour of the Parliamentary surveillance over administration. With the emphasis of their functioning to concentrate on long-term plans, policies and the philosophies guiding the working of the Executive, these Committees will be in a very privileged position to provide necessary direction, guidance and inputs for broad policy formulations and in achievement of the long-term national perspective by the Executive.” So here are the businessmen sitting on the same committees that frame ‘policies and philosophies’ that guide their businesses. This is worse than stock market insider trading!
As of now, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, KVP Ramachandra Rao, Nama Nageshwara Rao named above are all on the parliamentary standing committees on Finance, Estimates, Public undertakings, Industry etc and at the same time they are ‘on record’ running businesses related to same areas/sectors. The conflict of interest in case of these members is so glaring that, in the past, chairman of one such committee seem to have asked them why they should not be asked to withdraw from certain meetings, as the issue on the agenda was directly related to their business.
Every time there is a cabinet expansion, there is a hue and cry in media about how Andhra Pradesh is ‘discriminated’ against in its share of ministries. The point is that the MPs in question are enjoying it better on these committees milking them for their own businesses. And looking at the membership in these committees, AP got more than its share. In fact these politicians are leveraging the power of coming from a state that is producing 42 MPs purely to amass riches for themselves. They fear a demerger would end that clout and they would be left without any bargaining power to sit on these committees.
And folks who argue how ‘efficient’ Andhra political leadership is should wonder why none of them bothered to be on board of 21 member Lok Sabha standing committee or the 10 member Rajya Sabha committee on Agriculture, especially when a huge percentage of Andhras are employed in Agriculture.
Will the Andhra plutocrats let go of Telangana?
Highly unlikely. it is clear they are trying every trick in the book. They have previously successfully blackmailed the top leadership of BJP and now are doing the same with Congress, with their money bags. Only an uncompromising fight on part of Telangana advocates will force the central leadership of Congress to yield to the demand. It would happen only if the power of masses gets more threatening than the moneybags.

Lanco Infratech faces AUD 3.5 bn lawsuit in Australia

NEW DELHI: Multinational Perdaman Industries has dragged Lanco Infratech to court in Australia seeking a AUD 3.5-billion (about 16,600 crore) compensation for not complying with coal supply pact.
For its upcoming urea plant, Perdaman had entered into a 25-year coal supply pact with Griffin Coal , which was acquired by diversified group Lanco for AUD 730 million in March 2011. According to Australia-based Perdaman, which is currently focused on urea production, Lanco Infratech is not complying with the coal supply agreement, worth billions of American dollars. According to the contract with Griffin, about 89 million tonnes of coal is to be supplied to Perdaman’s upcoming Collie urea project in Western Australia over a period of 25 years.
“We have filed a lawsuit against Lanco Infratech seeking a minimum compensation of about AUD 3.5 billion in the Supreme Court of Western Australia,” Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers Pty Ltd’s Chairman and Managing Director Vikas Rambal said. Lanco Infratech officials were not available for comments.
Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers, whose parent company is Perdaman Industries, has filed the lawsuit against Lanco.
“Because of Lanco Infratech’s conduct under the Australian consumer act Perdaman is facing road blocks with regards to the works of the proposed AUD 3.8-billion urea plant and have also suffered damages,” Rambal said.
He said the lawsuit, which comes under commercial litigation case, was filed at the end of May and the hearing is expected on July 27.
The final agreement for the coal supply was signed with Griffin in December 2010.
“We were planning to start construction of the Collie plant next month. Now, it is kept on hold…,” Rambal noted. The uncertainty over coal supply has also affected Perdaman’s relationships with prospective stakeholders. About 20 contracts with stakeholders, related to urea supply from Collie plant, have been impacted, Rambal said.
The proposed Collie plant would have an annual urea production capacity of 2 million tonnes. Griffin Coal’s assets include thermal coal mines with a production capacity of about 5 million tonnes at present.

Lessons Professor Jayashankar taught

The dreaded end came yesterday. Professor Jayashankar passed away after battling cancer for several months. It is hard to fight the news of this departure without shedding tears and taking solace in the spirit he left behind.
My earliest recollection of seeing and listening to him was around 2002 when he was a guest at a seminar on Telangana statehood in Arts College, Hanumakonda. I could not comprehend all of what he spoke then but what struck me was his matter-of-fact tone and the mellifluous language he used. Later on, I came to understand his calm demeanor came from a rich mind and its clarity of thought and his language from Telangana’s rich multi-lingual heritage (No wonder he was in love with expressing in all languages – Telugu, Urdu and English).
That is, for me, the primary lesson from him. To keep the calm and remain objective about issues, no matter how provoking situations could be. He showed by example that notwithstanding how sensitive and provoking the issue could be, it is important to be dispassionate to find a solution. While I grew up, that was the lesson I tried to remember as often as possible. In all these years, I have seen no one who spoke as objectively as he did about the reasons for Telangana movement. That did not change till his last breath despite being at the other end of vicious attacks from Andhra plutocrats who labeled him ‘Mullah Omar’ and the students campaigning for Telangana as Taliban. While the economist in him studied the regional disparities in this country, the humanist in him conceptualized the problem and advocated for the state of Telangana.
Another of his traits is his uncompromising spirit. He saw the struggle for 3 generations and did not end up just as another despondent guy. He incessantly fought for the state through all means. Authored literature presenting the many ills Telangana was subjected to due to the lop-sided merger, encouraged many Telangana organizations like TDF across the world to take shape and contribute to the cause and lent support to every political attempt to achieve Telangana statehood, whether it was TRS or NavaTelangana Praja Party. Not surprisingly, he remained a bachelor as he left too little time for his own self while dedicating his whole life to the cause he believed in.
The genial professor’s ideology shaped today’s Telangana movement so much that you see the most active part in the movement now taken by people from his background- that of academic circles. Professors elucidate the ideas, right from constitutional discussions around article 3 to debates over Bombay city during Gujarat’s inauguration. Taking the lead of the professor, the academics dug so much into the statistics of agriculture, industry and other areas of state administration over the years that the SriKrishna committee now finds it difficult to cover the pit with their concocted theories and cooked up statistics. It is this veracity that is lacking even in the most honest arguments for Samaikyandra. Instead, it has real estate businessmen making their case with ‘ground-breaking’ theories, like how asking for a state is being anti-national. If the professor made selfless efforts making the case for Telangana for decades, the best thing for Samikyandra on parallel lines is a book authored by an NRI sold on Amazon! In short, Samaikyandra ‘movement’ does not have a Jayashankar. It can’t.
Professor Jayashankar made invaluable contributions by putting on record the experiences from the Telangana movement of 1952 and 1969. In an age when the state government did everything to wipe out the very being of Telangana (by even putting a communal spin on Hyderabad liberation day), it was Jayashankar’s writings and speeches that carried through generations and are now on the threshold of giving a new lease of life to Telangana identity. In that sense, the professor shaped the cultural and political renaissance of Telangana. His work also made present Telangana movement to learn from mistakes of the past and reinvent itself over time as situation demands and importantly, sustain.
When I had a chance to interact with him more than a year ago, I asked him what to expect out of the SKC. He said ‘nothing’. I guess his experience taught him enough about these committees/commissions. There is no point for people today to relearn the same lessons he did for generations – that not to trust the government to ‘give the statehood’. Telanganas have to seize their right. That is what the professor wanted, to force the union to cede the statehood through an uncompromising fight. His departure only strengthens the resolve of those who know him to pay a fitting tribute to him – by incessantly campaigning for the Telangana state.

Hyderabad now turned into Telanagana Bastion

Hyderabad Hamara Hain !
Telangana Ka Shaan Hain !!
Politicians, Freedom fighters, Businessmen, Govt Employees, Teachers, Civil right activists, Daily laborers, Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, IT professionals and students came along with their families together on Hyderabad’s roads Sunday for ‘vanta vaarpu’ or a cook-and-eat agitation to demand a separate Telangana state. Hundreds of thousands people from all walks of life set up kitchens on roads, cooked food and ate it. Men joined hands with women in helping cutting vegetables , preparing breakfast and lunch at several places in the city . This programme turned up to be a big hit , Stoves were lit in 1500 different places in Hyderabad & Secunderabad and in a rough estimation more than 20,000 stoves were lit to feed the Telangana protagonists.
Thousands of stoves were lit on the roads of HYD as part of “Hyd Cooks on the Roads” . An estimated 3-4 lakh Hyderabadi’s have participated in this novel protest . Such a big number of community kitchens on roads in one particular city has never happened any time, anywhere on this planet Earth . This is some kind of World Record, and an eye opener to Seemandhra plutocrats . Interesting thing is most of them carried their own domestic gas stove and other groceries, vegetables to their nearest road. Men who never make their own Tea/Coffee at home were seen helping their wives in cutting vegetables and stirring the curry/rice on stove.
In Banjara Hills?Jubilee Hills Constituency and at Basvataraka cancer hospital almost 1000 stoves were lit . At Gun Park more than 800 stoves were lit to cook food. If this is the number at these Junction’s , then Imagine how many thousands of stoves mite be burning on sunday in other parts of Hyd city .
The world history has recorded the French and Russian revolution, where the respective governments never cared for the demand of democratic self rule and ignored the majority . American revolution was the result of Colonist approach of England(Europe) where it simply looted their resources and levied heavy taxation . Now the world history has a new chapter under the category of revolution and that is of Telangana revolution, it has the aura of all the above revolutions. Like French & Russian revolution there is every chance that ‘Czars’ of Seemandhra govt being overthrown in a civilian “Coup”. History repeats itself coz most people are ignorant of its lessons.
Who said Telangana war is over ? The real war has just started. Tens or perhaps Hundred’s of thousands have took to the streets of Hyderabad on Sunday to express their solidarity with Telangana warriors. After watching the pictures on my TV screen , I can say with authority that there’s something in AIR in Telangana . A ‘Fury’ which I and many people in my region can sense it .That can lead to an big explosion which will burn the present dictatorial regime seems to be inevitable , unless the demand for separate state is fulfilled . Compared to Million March , a better sense seems to have prevailed over Seemandhra Police. Like last few months this time they did not dared to unleash state-terror which wud have the consequences of violent , entrenched and impudent and may have led to horrible results.
The sudden rise of Telangana tide in Hyderabad city on Sunday has blocked the minds of SA-Media & Seemandhra Plutocrats. They never expected such a high uprising for Telangana in an cosmopolitan Hyderabad city. The questions that continued to disturb them are : How cud T-JAC organise ‘Cook and Eat’ program on such a massive scale ? How cud Hyderabad middle class people comprising women who are always shy to participate in any protest ever have chided with the Telangana revolutionaries on Sunday ?? How the unity was achieved in the class driven society , that from IAS officers to Hamali’s (daily wagers) dined , danced ,cheered , clapped for Telangana cause, forgetting their Class disparities? In their hearts, SA-Media & Plutocrats now acknowledge that this revolution is one of the biggest seismic event in Independent India , that has devastating effect to uproot their corrupt-dictatorial regime from Telangana .
The narcissistic propaganda of SA-Media that Telangana sentiment has no place in cosmopolitan like city Hyderabad , now stands shattered with the success of ‘Vanta Varpu’(cook & eat on streets) program .The chains of slavery induced by Seemandhra Plutocrats in Hyderabad city is now seen broken by the Telangana revolutionaries . The high rise of tide of “self rule” is very much evident today on the streets of Hyderabad with the massive participation of civil society in “Vanta-Varpu” (cook & eat on streets) . With grand success of Vanta-Varpu , the morale of Telangana revolutionaries is understandably very high, for their noble cause of self rule , dignity , and freedom of their region.
The greatest achievement of this ‘Vanta-Varpu’ is that , though lakhs of people have come out on to streets not one Seemandhra felt insecure or threatened . Its worth a mention that many of Seemandhra settlers in kukatpally ,Ameerpet & LB Nagar have voluntarily participated in Vanta-Varpu and extended their support for Telangana cause. This has clearly exhibited that ordinary Semmandhraite living for their livelihood in Hyderabad has no reservations of what so ever against Telangana formation .
Seemandhra governmet has tried its level best to create the obstacles by warning of stern actions if stoves are lit on streets , but that dint stopped Telanganite’s to come on to streets. There will be more obstacles created by Seemandhra regime on the way to Telangana formation, but make no mistake all such obstacles will be overcome by the Telangana Warriors triumphantly. With this kind of spirit, Telangana will be Free from Slavery very soon .

Vanta-Vaarpu was a huge success.

The ‘Vanta-Vaarpu’ ( cook-on-the-roads) programme on Sunday was a huge success. Thousands of community kitchens were set up on all major thoroughfares in 150 municipal divisions in the state, demanding introduction of Telangana bill in the monsoon session of Parliament.
The programme, part of the call given by the Telangana political JAC to mount pressure on the UPA government, passed off peacefully with participants across the Telangana political spectrum cautioning the Centre not to test their patience.
“People in the city have once again sent a strong message to the Centre to act immediately on the process of forming Telangana state. If Delhi rulers do not respect public sentiment, then we will take the agitation to newer heights in a phased manner like laying siege to the city, holding rasta rokos and rail rokos. If the need arises, we will not hesitate to call for an indefinite general strike,” said Kodandaram, the JAC chairman.
The TRS chief and his family participated in the Vanta-Vaarpu programme held near the Basava Tarakamma Memorial Cancer Hospital in Banjara Hills. Addressing the gathering, the TRS chief said, “The time has come for Telangana leaders to stop visiting Delhi. Our struggle must be intensified further to force Delhi leaders to come to us. I am assuring all T Congress leaders that there is no threat to their political future if they resign. The Congress party will not accept their resignations. I will talk to them in a day or two and convince them.”
Siricilla legislator K Taraka Rama Rao, who made his presence felt at several temporary kitchens, had his meal at Mytrivanam. Sounding a note of caution against testing the patience of people in the region, Rao said Congress leaders should stop enacting drama in Delhi and get down to direct action in the state.
“If they fail to resign by July 1 as promised, we will start cooking before their houses and make them feel the heat of the movement. We will give a befitting reply to the Centre by holding yet another impactful million march programme,” he said.
The BJP leaders too actively participated at a programme held near Basheerbagh. Gadar, who attended the programme said, ” Hyderabad lo vantalu, Delhi lo mantalu (The heat of these kitchens must be felt in Delhi). This peaceful and innovative struggle will definitely send a strong message to the Centre and force the Delhi rulers to respond to our genuine demands for self-rule and self-respect.”
TRS floor leader E Rajendar participated in a huge kitchen set up in Alwal area, while Medak TRS MP Vijayashanti, Banjara Hills Congress MLA P Vishnuvardhan Reddy and Siddipet TRS MLA T Harish Rao had community lunch near Hi-Tec City.
Temporary kitchens were also set up on the premises of Osmania Medical College, outside Ranga Reddy district courts, OU varsity, near Angrau crossroads, L B Nagar, Malakpet, Mint compound and Clock Tower.

‘Vanta-Varpu’ changed the ‘psyche’ of Hyderabad City

The ‘Vanta-Varpu’ in Hyderabad city is an unqualified success. It has added another feather in the caps of TRS and JAC. It has proved wrong the skeptics (including yours truly), that the ‘Police Raj ‘of this present andhra administration will not allow it to take off, as they were doing on other forms of protests throughout Telangana. It was felt that the presence of DGP, Commissioner of Police with unlimited Police force at their disposal in the city, will try to use their muscle and stifle the protest. But, the administration baulked at the audacity and imagination of the people. The determination, discipline and effervescence of Telangana peope, effectively discouraged them. They watched in amazement from sidelines, the spontaneous unfolding of an incredible scenario on every road, nook and corner of Hyderabad city. The real ethos of Hyderabad common people in favor of Telangana, came on to the roads, with an unmistakable message.Hyderabadi women played a stellar role in this, magnificent form of protest.
The concept, script, direction and action of the event by TRS & JAC combine, is a new revelation. It adds great credibility to the validity of their cause and to their organizational ability. They have taken the ‘bull of andhra administration by its horns’ and subjugated it in this event. It has rubbished the colored views of Telangana traitors like Mukesh , Danam and Damodar; showed the way forward to the fence sitters in T-Congress & political slaves in T-TDP; opened the eyes of Telangana doubting thomases in high places;takes wind out of arrogant andhra chauvinists in Hyderabad city. This singular event in the annals of Hyderabad , has changed irrevocably ,the ‘psyche’ of Hyderabad City in relation to Telangana State. ‘Jai Telangana’! Viva la Telangana!

Telangana activists cooking on roads

Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Sunday began with vanta vaarpu agitation on Hyderabad roads to draw the attention of the central government to the demand for a separate Telangana state. Hundreds of people, including leaders of various constituents of JAC, are participating in this unique form of protest in various parts of the city.
Protestors have set up kitchens on main thoroughfares and the busy traffic intersections since early Sunday, affecting the movement of vehicles. Activists, including women, were seen cutting vegetables, preparing ingredients and cooking food for breakfast and lunch.
Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) legislator Harish Rao launched the protest at Hitec City, the information technology hub. He was assisting other activists in cooking the food.
TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao’s daughter Kavita, who heads cultural wing of the party, was sitting with other protestors on the road near the Indo-American Cancer Institute in Banjara Hills and cutting vegetables.
“This is the beginning of the final phase of Telangana movement and people want to convey to the central government that it should immediately form a separate state,” she told reporters.
The TRS chief, along with his wife and other family members, will join the protest later in the day.
JAC convenor M Kodandaram and leaders of various associations of government employees in Telangana set up a huge kitchen near Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial in front of the state assembly building in the heart of the city.
JAC leaders said they chose Sunday so that all sections of people could participate in the protest. They expect 100,000 kitchens to come up across the city and on the outskirts, and a turnout of 1.5 million protestors.
Police mobilised additional forces to tackle the protest while the organisers have warned the government against creating any hurdles in the “peaceful protest”.

Lagadapati & Company – ‘Thugs’ and ‘Pindaris’ of Andhra

The behavior and utterances of Lagadapati and Andhra ministers remind us ‘Thugs and Pindaris’ of Indian history. These people are worst than those thieves. At least those murderous robbers were honest in their profession. They never wore the cloaks of false hood on them in robbing people, like these unscrupulous Andhra leaders. Lagdapati & Co. should know that it is their fathers who came begging for merger with Telangana, and made good their deficit budget with the surplus budget of Hyderabad state. They came from tents and started their treacherous rule from the palaces of Telangana. They rebuilt their barrages with Telangana money.
They robbed thousands of educational seats, hundreds of tmc of river  water, lakhs of jobs, thousands of acres of land of Telangana and killed hundreds of Telangana youth. They came begging in the name of ‘one jaati’ and committed unlimited treason on Telangana people. Are they illiterates? Imbeciles? Can’t see the volumes of their treason on Telangana people, made public now, with such irrefutable evidences. They have done all this under the cloak of ‘oke bhasha, oke jaati’. Now they have the temerity to call Telangana people ’jaati drohulu’ for demanding their own state back. What happened to this ‘droham’ when they got separated from ‘Madras state’ after fattening themselves on tamil resources for so many years? Here again they are used to getting fattened on Telagana resources and don’t want to leave it.
They are the real ‘jaati drohulu’, the modern day ‘Thugs and Pindaris’. They have no shame and do not ponder for a moment, what civil society will think of them.  They do not have an iota of intellectual honesty. All andhra people are not like this. At least  they should be conscious of the reputation of their own ‘andhra jaati’. The ‘Thugs and Pindaris’ of yore must be turning in their graves, after seeing the dis-honesty and treason of these traitors. It is time for Telangana people to teach lessons to these scoundrels like Hastings did to ‘Thugs and Pindaris’ of his time.

Telangana Congress leaders get their resignation letters ready!

TNN : Agitated by an indifferent Centre and their own increasing unpopularity in Telangana, Congress MPs and MLAs wrote out and signed their resignation letters on Thursday, saying these would be sent to the relevant constitutional officials if no positive announcement on Telangana is made by the Centre by July 1.
Eight Congress Lok Sabha MPs, one Rajya Sabha MP, five state ministers, 17 MLAs and eight MLCs from the region met over breakfast at MP K Rajgopal Reddy’s house here on Thursday. The letters are with Andhra panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy.
“If the UPA government does not make a positive announcement about Telangana by July 1, the letters will be forwarded for acceptance on July 1. There’s no going back on the July 1 deadline,” said Jana Reddy. “We will begin an indefinite hunger strike from July 5,” said Rajagopal Reddy. The last time, in December 2009, their mass resignations were rejected on grounds of not being properly formatted. It would be interesting to see what would be the excuse this time!

Battleground Telangana: Book Review

Battleground Telangana: Chronicle of an Agitation by Kingshuk Nag, Resident editor of TOI Hyderabad, is an honest attempt to write Issue of Telangana as dispassionately as possible. At times he was very critical of Telangana movement and other places he was very appreciative of the fact that this agitation is genuine people movement.
Author starts with history of Andhra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He took lot of pain to explain Telugus history, “First freedom struggle of Telangana -1969” and economic reasons behind the Telangana cause – in the subsequent chapters, and then he enters contemporary history of Telangana where covers -ups and downs of TRS and “second freedom struggle”. Title”Chronicle of Agitation” bests suits for these few chapters as he did nothing but documenting the recent events in chronological order. As an editor of newpaper, certainly he must be privy to so much of off the record information. He should have spiced few chapters here with that insight. Though contemporary history he covered most dispassionately, he did not offer anything new to the reader who is well versant with recent incidents. As somebody said contemporary history is prone to criticism-everybody has his own version; Nag tried accommodating all view points with finesse.
No agitation or incident of historical importance can go without it being seen through caste prism. He labored a lot to explain the caste web of Andhra Pradesh. This chapter his close to my heart as he did splendid job to explain the caste politics of Andhra Pradesh in no sense manner. How Telangana when formed disturbs whole cast equations he meticulously explained.
This book did not go without its minor factual errors. As author claims this was proof read by editor from New Delhi, who was not conversant with politics of Andhra Pradesh, that editor deservers all accolades. There are some factual errors like YSR died on the way to village in Nellore in place of Chittor. Incident related to KCR arrest in Karimnagar were not documented to the details and accuracy.
Though, I appreciate the fact that this book revolves mostly around the issue of Telangana for all right reasons. However, he should have documented kind of leadership that this agitation has thrown from villages to towns to cities. He also failed to capture the kind Cultural Revolution that this agitation fathered and as a result innumerable songs that common people have written and how many cultural entities propped up across Telangana.
I suggest this book to all who want to know about Telangana movement and also for those non Telangana friends who naively asks on office dinner tables Why Telangana? .
P.S: I must thank FlipKart for delivering this book in less than 24 hours and my wife for letting me read the same in 5 hours uninterruptedly.

Decision on Telangana in a week

After protesting against Chidmbaram’s “intellectual” arrogance by refusing to leave Home Ministry’s conference hall for two hours, Telangana Congress leaders had a chance to have an extended session with Mukherjee and Ahmed Patel. The meeting lasted for 75 minutes as the two senior leaders gave a patient hearing to the delegation.
In the meeting, the leaders once again asserted that nothing short of statehood would satisfy the people of Telangana and Pranab Mukherjee assured Congress leaders that the party would take a decision on the statehood issue within a week.
Meanwhile Congress MP K Rajagopal Reddy and his brother and State Minister K Venkat Reddy said that if the Telangana issue was not resolved by June 30, they would announce their resignations. “For us, posts are not important, Telangana is more important,” Venkat Reddy said.
MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi said they made it clear that it was their last meeting on the issue. ‘We told them that we will not come again and submit representations on the issue. We will come only if the party invites us for taking a decision on formation of separate state,’ the MP from Nizamabad said.
Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, whose statement that the Congress party was against regionalism had created a storm few days ago, attended the dinner with Telangana leaders and apparently to placate their feeling raised “Jai Telangana” slogan.
In Hyderabad, Telangana Rashtra Samiti leader T Harish Rao warned that if the Congress leaders return empty handed from New Delhi, the people of Telangana will revolt against them and will not allow them to move around. “The people of Telangana don’t want any post for their leaders or packages or any thing. They only want Telangana State,” he said.

Chidambaram meeting flops. Next Pranab?

More than 60 Congress legislators comprising MPs, MLAs and MLCs from the Telangana region on Wednesday met Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and demanded urgent steps for the creation of Telangana state.
The legislators, however, expressed “unhappiness” over getting “very little” time to meet the Home Minister and sat for more than two hours at a conference hall of the Home Ministry.
“We have met the Home Minister and placed our demand. Unfortunately, he was in a hurry to go for another meeting. So, our people are unhappy as the Home Minister gave us very little time,” Rajya Sabha member Hanumantha Rao told reporters in New Delhi.
Senior Congress leader Keshava Rao said, “we know the Home Minister is not in a position to take a decision. But we thought that it is appropriate to come and apprise him with people’s feelings as he has been involved in the process.”
He said people of Telangana region were upset that there was no mention either in Parliament or in the State Assembly about the death of 600 people demanding a separate State.
Mr. Rao also dismissed the suggestion for constituting a Gorkhaland Autonomus Council-type authority for the Telangana region. Some leaders also indicated that they may go for a mass agitation, including en masse resignation, if no decision is taken in the next few days.
The delegation included 13 MPs, 10 State Ministers, 28 MLAs and 13 MLCs belonging to the Telangana region.

Telangana Congress leaders to meet Mukherjee, Chidambaram today

Congress MPs and MLAs from Telangana will have a crucial meeting with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram today to press their demand for statehood to the region. The legislators would meet Chidambaram at around 3 pm and Mukherjee at 8 in the evening in Delhi
“We will not accept something like a Gorkhaland package. Our demand is separate Telangana,” he said. The Congress public representatives from Telangana had a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last week during which they apprised him about the strong sentiment prevailing in the region for separate statehood.
The leaders had a meeting earlier this month and Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao said then that they would be forced to resign if there is no positive response from the Centre to their demand.

Gorkhaland formula will not work for Telangana

Making one last attempt to force a solution to the Telangana issue, the Congress is now suggesting a Gorkhaland model of autonomy.
The idea, allegedly mooted by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, would be revealed by Andhra Pradesh AICC in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad in the coming weeks.
However, the development has only further angered Telangana activists, who are unwilling to settle for anything short of a separate state.
People will come out on to the streets and fight tooth and nail opposing any compromise formula other than the formation of the state, says Dr Prithviraj, leader of the students forum for Telangana.
Congress leaders from Telangana have made several attempts in the past few days to force a situation on this issue.
During their meeting with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a couple of days back, they had expressed their apprehentions about returning to their constituencies. Dr Singh sent them back with an assurance of an early solution.
However, the Congress, which had announced that the process for the formation of a separate state had commenced, is now mulling over granting autonomy instead of forming a separate state.
As per the suggestion, a council would be formed and Telangana would get a huge pay package.
Among the other proposals suggested for Telangana are the formation of a Telangana Regional Council and also a preparation of an annual report card, which would look into the problems of the people of the region.
Congress leaders from Telangana have, however, decided to oppose this move.
Keshava Rao, an MP from the Telangana region, says that the model that was applied to Darjeeling cannot be applied here.
“This is not democray but hypocricy,” says Dr Sangam Prithviraj, adding, “Don’t you think this is ridiculous, especially when Telangana has been announced in both Houses of Parliament. Anything short of a separate Telangana is not acceptable to us.”
“One must remember that all these promises will not reach any of the people at the end of it. Autonomy is not a solution. This not only includes our financial plight, but also our self respect. This formula will not achieve any of those goals,” he said.
The political Joint Action Committee for Telangana too says that the formula is ‘stupid’.
“There is no way we are going to agree to this. They have said that they will make the people come around. This is not possible,” a JAC member said.
Students would play a big role in opposing this proposal. In the days to come, our protests would intensify.
The students JAC too is unwilling to agree to the new formula. They have also come down heavily on Union Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy, who recently voiced his opposition to regional and sub-regional demands.
“Who is he to talk about the Congress being against regionalism? Does he understand the cause? If he was so confident and was acting as the mouth piece of Sonia Gandhi, then why did he back out of those various political meetings he had to hold in the Telangana region? He too knows what his madam has suggested is all rubbish. But he cannot convey this to the people of Telangana,” Dr Prithviraj said.
“The Union government is playing with fire; we dare the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi to come in with military support and meet the people of Telangana. Our respect for them will emerge only if they give us our state,” he added.

‘Hyderabad cooks on roads’ on June 19th

Telangana agitation is all set to resume from June 19. The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) will lay siege to Hyderabad, blocking all roads in the state capital.
TJAC Convenor Prof M Kodandaram on Sunday said lakhs of people from across Telangana would come out and camp on the city roads and on the highways leading to Hyderabad.
“They will set up community kitchens, cook and eat on the roads as part of the 24-hour siege. ‘Hyderabad cooks on roads’ programme will bring the state capital to a complete halt,’’ he said.
The TJAC has also set June 25 as the deadline for all Telangana MPs and MLAs to resign. Kodandaram warned that if they fail to do so, then MPs and MLAs would not be able to visit their constituencies or villages.
“The TJAC has asked all MPs and MLAs of the ruling Congress and main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to resign if the central government failed to respond positively to the demand for a separate state. If the Centre fails to take a positive decision by June 25 all public representatives of Congress and TDP should resign and create a constitutional crisis. We will see to it that all the elected representatives resign,’’ Kodandaram said.

Satire on Jaipal Reddy’s comments

Addressing a party function Union minister S Jaipal Reddy disapproved of sub-regionalism and claimed that the Congress is a nationalist party.
“If I were a student of Osmania University now, I would have joined the Congress because it is the only party committed to nationalism and protecting the country’s interests,” he said.
Reddy’s remarks set off a storm in political circles with the pro-Telangana leaders demanding their immediate withdrawal. Soon after his address, P Prabhakar, MP from Karimnagar, ought clarification about his remarks.
“Jaipal Reddy has clearly exposed his anti-Telangana stand. The Congress should clarify whether these were his personal remarks or were the opinions of the high command. If these were his personal comments, he will not be allowed to step into Telangana again,” Telangana Rashtra Samithi legislator T Harish Rao said.

Battleground Telangana: Chronicle of an agitation

Medak, a district that borders Greater Hyderabad, is a telling example of the poor economic development in Telangana, writes Kingshuk Nag in ‘Battleground Telangana: Chronicle of an agitation’ (www.harpercollins.co.in).
On the roads of Medak, not more than an hour and a half from Hyderabad, it is possible to run into nomads travelling on bullock carts with all their belongings, describes Nag. “These people have no home and hearth and move from place to place within the district in search of jobs. Many others, who have some place to live, migrate seasonally in the months of summer not only in search of jobs but also looking for sources of drinking water.”
Also, from the neighbouring district of Mahbubnagar, people migrate in lakhs to Mumbai and north India, in search of jobs in road construction and so on, reports the author, in a chapter titled, ‘The state of the economy’. He notes that the migration is so large that the labourers have built their own brand identity. “They are called Palamoor labour (after Palamoor, the old name for Mahbubnagar district) and contractors round them up and transport them to distant places.”
Nag cites a quote of Gautam Pingle, don at the Administrative Staff College of India, thus: “It is ironic that people from here go for employment hundreds of kilometres away although the Krishna cuts through the district and the Tungabhadhra flows on its southern edges.” Distressing it would be to read that in the tribal pockets of Mahbubnagar, people have to walk for two kilometres for water which may be accessed from a small well or water hole. Nag bemoans that districts so close to Hyderabad and its showcase Cyberabad, which boasts of investments from multinationals, wallow in poverty in the way Medak and Mahbubnagar do.
Another example of migration mentioned in the chapter is of Karimnagar, one of the most developed districts in Telangana, which witnesses hordes of people flying out to the Gulf in search of opportunities. Nag informs that much of this traffic is illegal and depends on forged documents; and that many of those who go have to come back without realising any return on the huge investment they made by paying agents who had promised them El Dorado.
He narrates that, in 2005, when India was not allowing any of its citizens to go to war-ravaged Iraq, a large number of people from Karimnagar were landing up in that country. “Most of them worked as dhobis, scavengers, construction workers, cooks and drivers to the US forces and for a few dollars were willing to brave minefields, bullets, and bomb attacks. Many of those who go to the Gulf have to come back and fall in a debt trap unable to pay the interest on the loan they take to finance their overseas trip.”
Book Summary:
When the state of Andhra Pradesh was formed in 1956, the people of Telangana (the region ruled by the Nizams at the time of independence) did not want to be a part of it, fearing that they would be displaced by the more enterprising and better educated migrants from the Andhra region. In 1969, massive agitations for a separate Telangana left 400 people dead but the movement petered out.
With the creation of new states like Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Uttaranchal in 2000, the battle for Telangana began once again. In 2009, the Indian government announced that Telangana would be a separate state, but is now dilly-dallying, worried about the backlash from the Andhra region. At the heart of the problem is the city of Hyderabad, which lies bang in the middle of Telangana but is being claimed by both sides.
Is the upsurge in Telangana so strong that the Indian government will be unable to resist it? Is there a middle course? This book explores the complex issues, and the underlying causes of the Telangana movement.

How low is too low for Justice SriKrishna?

When few paragraphs of the SKC’s eighth chapter leaked out 3 months ago, I went just plain sad. For once, I found nothing to discuss about that corrupt report. That leak made me relook at my blog and scores of activists out there, their hope, struggle and tireless efforts. Some of these thoughts, I would discuss in days ahead. The latest leak made me post this about the incredibly corrupt Srikrishna committee. How low is too low for these guys!?
After scores of songs and a movie, the cultural renaissance of Telangana is now marked by a newpaper. Namaste Telangana, theTelugu daily is launched this week and it started with a bang. It scooped out and published the contents of the ‘secret’ chapter 8. A news portal, Deccan Post, too published the English version now. The supplementary note of this chapter, as revealed, would put the wildest conspiracy theories to shame for lack of imagination!
Some excerpts are here below:
· “The Congress High Command must sensitize its own MPS and MLAs and educate them about the wisdom for arriving at an acceptable and workable solution. With the ruling party and also the main opposition party ( the TDP run by Chandra Babu) must be brought on the same page, the support mechanisms have a higher probability of becoming successful. The TDP must be advised not to participate in any further meetings that would be called by the Centre.
This could be an effective stumbling block for any meaningful dialogue on resolving the Telangana demand. The Andhra Congress MPs belonging to Kamma caste must be encouraged to work in tandem with TDP leadership which is now caught in a bad shape.”
So here is a committee set up by central government which suggests in its report to the very government to call for meetings on Telangana but also secretly advice the TDP to boycott the meet to stall any meaningful dialogue on the Telangana issue! I simply have no words to describe my feelings here. Beyond this point, I don’t feel like discussing anymore. But anyway lets go the whole log and get done with these drama company.
· “Further, on receipt of the Committee’s Report by the Government, a general message should be conveyed amongst the people of the State that Centre will be open for detailed discussions on the recommendations / options of the Report with the concerned leaders /stakeholders either directly or through a Group of Ministers or through important interlocutors and that this process will start at the earliest. But every method must be adopted to avoid giving finality to any discussions to drag on the matter until the agitation is totally brought under control.”
Justice Srikrishna seems to be so cocksure about everything. Maybe he thinks he controls the ebb and flow of everything around. His grand design, phew.
We already saw the below content in the earlier leak. Revisiting them to remind the times we live in.
· “ Andhra Pradesh has got about 13 Electronic Channels and 5 major local Newspapers which are in the forefront of molding the public opinion. Except for two Channels (Raj News & HMTV), the rest of them are supporters of a united Andhra Pradesh. The equity holders of the channels except the above two and the entire Print Media are with the Seemandhra people. The main editors/ resident and subeditors, the Film world etc. are dominated by Seemandhra people. A coordinated action on their part has the potential of shaping the perception of the common man. However, the beat journalists in the respective regions are locals and are likely to capture only those events/ news which reflect the regional sentiments. This can be tackled by the owners of the media houses by systematically replacing the local journalists by those from Seemandhra wherever it is possible.”
Just reflects how wide the grand plan is mapped, right into media, movies, editors. Did Telanganas complain about river waters, govt jobs etc,.Now add the local journos too to the list! Srikrishna’s grand symphony!
· “Each of the media houses are affiliated to different political parties. In the Print Media all major newspapers are owned by Seemandhra people and the Regional contents published by them play a vital role. Most of the editors except Andhra Jyothi are pro- united A. P. However, similar to the electronic channels, the print media have also got political affiliations. The editorial opinions, the banner headlines, the Regional content, the District editions need to be managed to be realistic and should give only due coverage to the separate Telangana agitations. The print media is hugely dependent on the Government for advertisement revenue and if carefully handled can be an effective tool to achieve this goal.”
“However, the RTI Act may prove to be an impediment for the Government to deny due share of ads to publications supporting the Telangana demand
.”
Propaganda, our retired justice thinks overwhelms the principles of law, justice, propriety and uncompromising struggle. The way he and his committee members operated reflect not just the powerful opposition Telangana is facing, but the moral and ethical bankruptcy of those in power, in this age, in India.
Thanks Amar for sharing

A slice of heroic Telangana

Please watch the video below:
Popout
It is the nostalgic reminiscences of a legendary ‘Telangana sayudha porata yodhudu’,Sri Bheemireddi Narasimha Reddi. An exciting piece of heroic Telangana history. Telangana ‘Sayudha Poratam’ was an original, parallel campaign of world communist movement. A pathological fear of communism by National Congress and a colonial abhorrence of all things Telangana by ‘andhras’, have suppressed such a glorious chapter in the history of the world.
An overview of ‘T’Sayudha Poratam’, now reveals that people of all castes and creeds have worked together at the height of feudalism in the state, for freedom. BN, Devulapalli, Ilamma, Dharma Bhiksham, Makhdoom Mohiuddin and likes of them, have fought, unitedly, some seventy years back, without any taste of democracy. Some of them have fought against their own social milieu, just for the heck of emancipatory, socialism and freedom. But after 70 years of this magnificent happening we are still fighting for the liberation of Telangana from exploitation. Though we have experienced democracy for 60 years, we still think in terms of caste and creed, perhaps some times more intensely and unjustly than those times. It does not mean that there are no social inequalities. They are there, albeit with different manifestation. Reacting to these inequalities and thinking about them in the old fashioned way, without regard to the changed circumstances is proving to be not very helpful.

In the present Telangana Struggle like in the old one, all social groups are participating with concern and commitment. Yet, sometimes the discordant notes of caste are causing disquiet in the campaign. Everything has its own appropriate time. It may not be prudent to raise the caste issues in the middle of this struggle. It is not the platform or the opportune moment to address this vexatious problem. It can only divide the attention of the Struggle. We need a state of our own, as a spring board to launch effective drive against the pernicious problems like this. It certainly, is a post-state formation issue. We are not there yet. We can take hold of the matter when we are there.. Meanwhile taking cue from our redoubtable predecessors, let us fight with undivided attention and with all the force at our command to defeat the forces inimical to Telangana. We need all of our full and co-ordinated strength, for, the enemy is very cunning and formidable. With the formation of Telangana State, we will be bringing to a culmination the grand old war initiated by our stalwarts, for real democratic freedom of Telangana people. It is a legacy we have inherited and it is our bounden duty to take it to its logical end. So, Let us plunge ahead for the final ‘putsch’.
Production of a  comprehensive documentary, depicting  the entire saga of ‘T’Sayudha Poratam’, with the roles of all the players in the great ‘Telangana epic’ would be a morale booster to Telangana people and the resurrection of our suppressed history.
