Telangana Updates

The rules are different in war times vs peace times

Killing is punishable crime during peace time, killing is heroic during war times.
Making secret plans and attacking is premeditated murder in peace time, It is desirable strategy in war times.
Hurting a leader of the opposition is undemocratic or uncivilized in peace times, but a rewardable achievement in war times.
To me a casual observer sitting 10,000 miles away from Telangana, it is obvious that Telanganaites have been forced to go on war path. They haven’t made any secret of it either. Numerous warnings and public statements have been made about it. But the opposition ignored, ridiculed, laughed it off, slighted and continued on its own merry way. The state and Central Govt leadership played Tom foolery games such as SKC, Police force, bribery of ministerial posts, etc etc, all the tricks in their bags.
The Governor of AP, challenged and provoked by ignoring Telangana people’s demands and peaceful agitation and self immolations etc. He lied and under estimated and gave rosy reports of self aggrandizement saying he can control 45 constituencies better and easier than 175 constituencies, etc to centeral leaders. When Telangana was burning, Rachha banda became rochhu banda, when he was warned by Telangana MLAs that they will tear Governor speech papers if it didn’t have any reference to Telangana demand, he ignored in arrogance and stayed his course and attempted to mechanically read his lies in the assembly and insult the sensibilities of Telangana representatives, what did he expect them to do. What do they have to lose but slavery in a colonial setting?
Little did he know, the rules have changed. Little did he care for the sentiments and feelings and emotions of Telangana people and their representative. Little did he know that the assembly, which he and his kind of SA leadership consider as holy has been rejected by Telangana leadership and it is nothing but another arena of war. Little did JP realize that his words and actions have turned off patient people and drawn them into a war. Rules changed guys.
It is now “thado pedo”. You can cry all you want. You and your hunchmen in media may sensationalize every little incident as a big blow out. Should Telangana care? Didn’t you realize the desperation when 600 plus people committed suicide? Did you not realize that suicide may turn into murders?
You had every opportunity to play a proactive role and take people’s side. you had every opportunity convince the otherside and and enable a peaceful separation. You had every responsibility to not divide people. You had opportunity to create regional separation but united Telugus. But no, your police background bent towards force and you hoped it will be adequate to suppress Telanganaites. Well you see what is happening. Hope you change corrections to your course and steer towards the Telangana people’s sixty year desire for self rule.
Jai Telangana Jai Andhra. Down with AP.

Why Harish Rao reacted so much?

Ever since the assembly episode, leaving others, everyone wondered why Harish Rao, known to be very patient reacted that way. Harish has been silent on the episode and did not disclose the reasons for his reaction but, when the government pushed away all norms and made selective clippings of the assembly proceedings public, he chose to break his silence.
Speaking to the media, Harish said that the Governor Mr. E.S.L. Narsimhan, had called the agitating TRS and TDP leaders as “bastards” during his joint address on Thursday. He demanded an apology from the Governor and asked why no case had been booked by the Deputy Speaker against the Governor for insulting the MLAs.
With this, one can understand why the TRS and TDP MLAs were so agitated.
Its high time to recall the Governor.
Note : This site has never encouraged abusive language even in comments but chose to publish this news bit only to reveal the kind of language honourable Governor has used against our MLAs.

5 MLAs suspended. Mallesh sent to Jail.

Mallesh, driver of TRS leader E. Rajender, was sent to jail until March 29 for allegedly hitting Lok Satta president Jaiprakash in the Andhra Pradesh assembly premises the day before. He was produced before Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar, who ordered that he be lodged in jail till the end of the budget session March 29.
Manohar informed the house that an outsider was involved in the attack and it was breach of privilege of the member. He also sought a detailed report on the incident from Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Khan.
A first information report (FIR) was registered on a complaint by legislature secretary Raja Sadaram. Mallesh has been booked under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code, which relates to assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.
Many wondered if terming TRS MLAs as anti-social and making sarcastic comments was the duty that he was discharging.
Earlier, five Telangana MLAs including Harish Rao were suspended for seven days for allegedly heckling governor ESL Narasimhan during his address to the House on Thursday.
Interesting part was that educational institutions in Andhra and Raylaseema regions were closed to protest the attack. Students at universities in the Andhra and Rayalseema regions took out “rallies” condemning the incident !

SKC report is a pack of lies !

Now, Is there something worser than the High Court calling the SKC report ‘full of blatant lies’!? Well, of course the shameless plutocrats and the tyrants in power in Hyderabad wouldn’t give two hoots to the comments. But for the lesser souls who care for democracy, constitution and propriety, here is what the High Court said after it went through the ‘secret’ chapter 8.
According to the ToI, the court said the secret contents full of lies and mind-boggling descriptions of non-existent things. It further said “It is unfortunate that this report and its related exercise was presided over by a former judge of the Supreme Court,”, “This committee has spent Rs 40 crore of public money for preparing its report. Any person with a semblance of faith in the system of democracy would lose faith in it. The report prepared by the front office of an MP would have been more sensible than this report. Even the high command of a political party would have hesitated to prepare such a report,”.
According to the Indian Express, the high court said the report’s secret ‘chapter 8′ should be put before the public to make them know the kind of committees that are being appointed by the government.
In short, the High Court said the so called secret part of the report should be placed before the public not because it is important but because it is so dangerously ridiculous that people should know the levels to which governments stooped to appoint incompetent committees!!
I have discussing on this blog on how blatantly the report lied, suppressed truth, justified discrimination, encouraged constitutional violations and rued how the report makes right-thinking individuals to lose their faith in the system. I felt a relief hearing the court’s comments and can only thank god we still have some institutions like the judiciary that reposed the faith in us now and then.
Thanks Amar for sharing

T-Congress MLAs to recieve welcome with broomsticks.

Looks like TRS leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy’s warning did not yeild any results and the Congress MLAs from Telangana are all set to return to Hyderabad tomorrow, empty handed.
As many as 26 MLAs and six MLCs left for Delhi on Monday, after making it clear that they would return to Hyderabad with a specific assurance from the party high command. They, in fact, sought an appointment with party president Sonia Gandhi even before leaving for Delhi. As there was no word from Delhi, they decided to go to the national capital and pursue the appointment with party bigwigs there.
On Monday they met Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel who promised them that he would fix a meeting with Pranab Nukherjee, AK Antony and Veerappa Moily and told them not to insist on an appointment with Sonia Gandhi.
On Tuesday, all that they could do was meet Antony who also did not give them any assurance though they supplicated to him that if they returned to Hyderabad without any assurance, they would lose their face. But Antony reportedly remained unmoved and did not commit himself to anything.
Nothing worked out on Wednesday.
They stayed put in Delhi today hoping that they would be able to meet Pranab Mukherjee but it did not materialise. They, however, managed to speak to Veerappa Moily who was reportedly very curt with them that they should immediately return to Hyderabad as Assembly budget session was beginning tomorrow. He reportedly told them that it was not proper for ruling party MLAs to be away from Hyderabad at a time when crucial Assembly session was scheduled to begin.
The MLAs have now decided to stay in Delhi tomorrow also and see Pranab Mukherjee.
Earlier, the TRS and the TDP Telangana leaders have warned the Congress MLAs against returning to Hyderabad without any promise from the party high command. TRS leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy has warned that the TRS workers would receive them at Shamshabad airport with broomsticks if they did so.

Non-Cooperation brings government to halt! Revenue Collection drops by 50%!

Government employees taking part in Telangana Joint Action Committee’s non-cooperation call brought the district administration to a grinding halt on Thursday. It has also resulted in loss of revenue to the state exchequer by over Rs 150 crore only from two revenue-earning departments
Though the employees in the offices of the Commercial Taxes, Registration and Stamps and duty and Excise and prohibition departments were physically present in the offices, they did not attend to official duties. All the employees were sporting badges which read “non-cooperation.”
In all about Rs 100 to Rs 150 crore tax money has not been collected which included excise tax from the wine shops bars and pubs. Normally, the department collects Rs 250 to Rs 300 crore as tax everyday. It means the government revenue had dipped by 50%.
Barring emergency services like medical, sanitation, electricity, water works and bus, government employees of all other departments took part in the non-cooperation, which has been entirely violence-free.
“The entire administration has been paralysed,” said Paritala Subba Rao, chairman of Warangal Government Employees Joint Action Committee. Expressing solidarity with the government employees, the all-union JAC of Singareni also observed a two-hour tool down affecting coal production.
The worst-affected government department, however, was the RTC as bus drivers found it difficult to resume service at many places after passengers refused to buy tickets. TRS leader and MLA KT Rama Rao also travelled in a RTC bus without purchasing a ticket from Khairatabad to Assembly.
Meanwhile, Telangana Political JAC leader M Kodandaram said that all government employees and teachers participated in the movement and made it a grand success on the first day of the movement.

Srikrishna report full of blatant lies: HC judge

Justice L Narasimha Reddy of the AP High Court on Thursday described the ‘secret’ contents of the Srikrishna Committee as full of lies and mind-boggling descriptions of non-existent things.
The judge, who perused the report, said its contents were mind boggling and added that the committee exceeded its terms and references in preparing a report on law and order situation. Regarding the references on the communal and political overtones of the bifurcation, the judge remarked that the committee had “over projected certain non existing things in its ‘secret’ findings.” “It is unfortunate that a retired judge of Supreme Court was associated with this kind of report,” he said. “It is disgraceful for any person. Was it for this that the government spent `40 crore on the committee?”
He added that such reports would decrease the public confidence in judiciary. “If the judiciary fails in protecting democracy then who will?” the judge asked.
The additional solicitor-general, Mr M. Ravindran, while placing the secret report in a sealed cover, said it was prepared on the basis of intelligence inputs and urged the court to peruse it.
Justice Narasimha Reddy left for chambers to examine the report. He returned in 25 minutes in an angry mood and said the contents make disturbing reading. “It should be put before the public, so the people can know what sorts of committees are appointed by the governments,” he said. On being persuaded by the judge, the ASG also read the last two pages of the report and agreed that the committee need not have gone into all this. However, Mr Ravindran added that the Centre would file a counter affidavit if the judge wanted to make the report public.
The court then returned the ‘secret report’ and posted the matter to March 3.

Jhukkal MLA chased. Vehicle burnt.

TDP legislator from Jukkal, Hanumanth Shinde faced the wrath of Telangana activists when he attended ‘Dhoom Dhaam’ programme at Kandeballur village in Jukkal mandal last night.  Telangana protagonists chased him away and set his vehicle afire.
Opposing Hanumanth Shinde’s visit, T activists pelted stones on him, his followers and on police. Tense situation is prevailing in the village.
Around 8.30 p.m., the MLA and a few of his followers went to the programme organised by local JAC. Soon as he reached there, Telangana protagonists raised slogans against him and asked him to enter the village only after quitting his post.
Telangana activists entered into a heated argument with Shinde and pelted stones forcing him to flee with help of police. Sensing that the situation was spiraling out of control, police caned the mob away but by that time, they had damaged the legislator’s Scorpio and set it ablaze. The vehicle got burnt completely.
Additional police forces soon rushed to the village and launched a house-to-house search and thrashed some of the locals for the attack on the MLA. Irate locals gathered in huge numbers and pelted stones on police and damaged a few police vehicles also.

Telangana Thadaka : JP gets a beating. Governor faces T – Ire.

A frustated common man today attacked an MLA for testing his patience. Lok Satta Party founder, Kukatpally MLA and self acclaimed intellectual Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan was attacked  in the Assembly premises today. The incident has left him bewildered, and in tears.
The incident occurred when JP was making his way out of a jostling crowd outside the Assembly, at the Media Point. Dr. Narayan has not made any official statement yet, and is said to be contemplating resigning from the Assembly.
Earlier, pro-Telangana MLAs obstructed assembly proceedings on the opening day of the Budget Session, and disrupted the speech of the Governor. Shockingly, he completed his speech in 6 minutes flat !
Reacting to the incident, Rakesh, an RTI activist posted the following on his FB wall.
The holy cow has(read JP) delivered his sermon again. He says telangana employees are forgetting that people are supreme. Well Mr Holy cow, you forgot that long back.
He goes onto talk about the Non-cooperation slated from today. He says, people are supreme and they are the masters and non-cooperation does not serve the purpose. Well Mr Holy cow, this is what Gandhi used against an insensitive Govt, this is what people of egypt did when wanted their leader to bow down. All those qualify to be revolutions. But somehow issues related to telangana however historic they might be, remind this holy cow of his long forgotten adage, ” People are supreme”. Had he followed this, his party’s stand on Telangana would have been crystal clear. Hypocrisy at its best. His party should be renamed HSP (Hypocrites satta party) from LSP.
A historic Non-coperation movement is going to start from today where in people will not cooperate with a govt they dont believe in.
Though we should all condemn the physical attack on a few legislators outside assembly today, comments of JP were totally uncalled for and choosy. He felt that he could not save the constitution only today. But, he never felt this when so many students died for Telangana. He never felt the same when Telangana was looted up side down. Being in Telangana and choosen by Telanganites, one would not expect this from him. When 4 crore people of Telangana have been saying their rights were violated & they need self rule, he thinks only he is right!
On the other side, NBA rules went on a holiday today. All the Seemandhra media were very agile in telecasting this incident more than 200 times. Kudos to them.

Non-Cooperation starts today. Are you contributing?

More than two lakh government employees of Telangana will be boycotting work from today as part of the non-cooperation movement launched to mount pressure on the state and Central governments to grant statehood to Telangana.
The agenda is not to cooperate with the rest of Andhra Pradesh from today and ensure no work takes place in the region.
“They would go to the office, sign in the register but they would not work. They would absolutely declare non-cooperation. They will not work for this government which is against the interest of the people of Telangana,” said Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leader, KT Rama Rao.
Pro-Telanganites will also be not paying electricity bills, water bills, property tax and will be travelling in buses without buying a ticket. Advocates will not argue their cases before judges from the other two regions.
Sanitary workers from GHMC would join the stir at a later stage.
So, what are you doing as part of the non-cooperation? Share your ideas.

Non Cooperation to Non Violence Harassment

Now stage is set for “ Non Cooperation “ in Telangana from February 17 . After using all sorts of peaceful protest , T-JAC has taken up this Satyagraha kind of agitation . This is Last Dakka (push) towards formation of T-State. If Sonia regime fail to heed to our request , then an Egypt kind of fight will be happening on the streets of Hyderabad . If Governments think of using Police & Para Military forces to curb Non Cooperation by Govt employees , then civil society will be on streets to protect our NGO’s and one canot rule out another “ Chauri-Chura” happening in the region .
It had been almost a month and half now since Sri Krishna report on Telangana is out . Many expected a violent reaction on streets by defiant TG activists . Cant blame them alone , Politicians have used all the words in dictionary which remind us of Natural Calamity like will create an Earth Quake if SKC report goes against TG, so on so forth. But the people of Telangana has shown their War tactics by not taking up violent methods to register their protest and thus surprised the State Govt which bought Para Military forces to crush the Warriors .
Having said that , lemme clear the decks, by confessing that, Iam not against taking up violent methods to achieve the Telangana state . That can be taken when all other peaceful methods fail . What we do not want now is another 1969 kind of students massacre. Violence ( Civil War) shud be our last resort , coz history has been full of examples which proclaims that not much is won thru Violence , except pain and death . But , its better to die waging a War than sit idle and get robed/humiliated .
T-fight has percolated now to nook and corner of the region . Every village has now turned into a Protest zone as thousands of people from all spectra of society uniting under one banner . T-JAC gave call for indefinite Sit –in’s (Nirahara Deeksha) , and the result is almost 20000 tents have popped up all over Telangana. Sit-In program has proved the mettle of the cause. Its now second week since Nirahara Deeksha Shibirs have come up , and public are taking turns to participate in the program.
Nowhere in the world , one might have seen such a peaceful agitation , its hard even to imagine 20000 camps running successfully for such a long time . Not just the camps, people have voluntarily boycotted sate governments prestigious Racha-Banda program . Women in villages came out with broom sticks in their hands and threatened to use them if any Minister or MLA dare to enter their village . This scene was seen in all the villages of Telangana.
Now time has come to take up the last Peaceful Agitation , before we launch our Lethal attack . T-JAC , ABVP , BJP , TRS has now given call for “ Non Cooperation Movement/Satyagraha ” , it is on lines of our Independence Fight . Balaganghadar Tilak , Lalalajpat Rai were the people behind this Idea and the same was successfully implemented by Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Veer Savarkar, Hedgewar, Gandhi and others . Following our freedom fighters footsteps , Telangana activists now plan to launch “Another Freedom Struggle for Self Rule “ from February 17 .
To make this Non Cooperation a success , Telangana has to resolve strongly. There are 3 parts in this “ Civil disobedience/Satyagraha” . Firstly we will choke all the revenues of the government . No Taxes will be paid , this will lead to an acute insufficiency of funds in State treasury , Remember 70 % of state revenue in form of Taxes comes from Telangana .
So once we choke the State government , no other Financial institutions will lend or give any Overdrafts . State Govt has already taken so many advances from RBI , seeing the civil disobedience movement , even it will hesitate to give OD or further advances . With the movement picking up Finacial Institutions like World-Bank , ADB, IMF will pressurise the govt to clear its debts, this will burden the State more.
So to make the above Civil Disobedience happen , we need to show our Unity . From Feb 17 No Telanganite will pay the Electricity charges, VAT, Sales Tax, Property Tax, Land-Vehicle Registration Fees and all such other taxes which can be defined as Income to Government and Tax payment should be evaded till Telangana state is formed . Board a Train or Bus without a Ticket show your resentment towards the state, when Ticket collector comes , tell him in strongest terms that you prefer imprisonment than buying ticket till TG is formed . Don’t worry State will hesitate to go for disconnection any of its services for non payment or arrest Ticket less travellers or Defaulters , coz it will lead to untoward volatile situation as it will boomerang on stat government .
This is not impossible task Gorkhas in Darjeeling since 2007 are following civil disobedience . 30 Lakh Gorkhas are not paying electricity bill nor other taxes and in turn they are enjoying all the government services for FREE. If 30 Lakh Gorkha can bring down the govt to kneel, then why cant we replicate it here as part of our struggle.
The second part of this Civil Disobedience is that all the Gazetted , Non Gazetted , Teachers and all other government employees will stop all their work in protest . This boycott of Govt employees will overload the administrative system .With this the entire State Government Machinery will come to an standstill.
Last part of this Non-Cooperation Movement will be that we will boycott all the products made by Seema-Andhra companies. With this act of boycott we will try to break their financial backbone . Will not stop just boycotting SeemaAndhra products , but will go a step further and boycott them Socially too . Building owners should ask Seemandhra tenants to vacate premises immediately , Employers fire Seemanadhra employees , Stop all social relations , bully them , avoid meeting them , vendors stop selling products to them and make them understand that they are not welcome in Telangana .
Catch Seemandhrites off guard on busy Roads ask them when are they planning to leave Tealngana , trespass into their Homes and stick TG stickers, tell them using strongest words “ Bistar , Biwi bandho aur Bhago “( which means Pack your bedding ,wife and move). If your land owner is Seemandhrite , hold back monthly rent, don’t pay the rent at all . Play all the possible “mind games” with them . Run a fear psychosis in them , Harass them at will . Thus force them to come in support of our movement or Quit Telangana . This is called as “Non-Violent Harassment”.
Mental polarisation is TOTAL in the state . Now it’s the time to ask Andhra settlers in Hyderabad to cast their vote ,either support us or leave the region and there’s no middle way .The Telanganites must awake to the reality that all is fair in War , any stupid love or sympathy towards Seemandhra people living in HYD , will prove futile in long run . We have no hatred towards ordinary Seemandhrites but their silence on TG is proving hindrance for formation of our state . We should recognise that our generosity towards Seemandhra people living in HYD , had led to our exploitation . Now its high time we say ‘enough is enough’ and fight for our rightful cause . We fought our long battle on lines of Peace till now . Now , its high time for Seemandhrites acknowledge our fight and allow Andhra Pradesh MAP to be redrawn .

Non-cooperation agitation from tomorrow

The TEE-JAC released a document on the occasion to point out the alleged inaccuracies in the Srikrishna Committee report, submitted to the Centre in December-end. Speaking on the occasion, Telangana TDP leader N Janardhan Reddy alleged that the ruling Congress is trying to cheat the Telangana people once again. He criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for saying that the Centre was trying to arrive at a consensus on the decades-old statehood issue. The main Opposition TDP is split between supporters and opponents on the Telangana issue, Reddy said. Alleging that Governor E S L Narasimhan is “anti- Telangana”, he said his party would try to disrupt his address to the legislators tomorrow. Speaking at the fast held by the electricity employees, Congress MP Madhu Yashki Goud said he would not hang on to his post on the issue of separate Telangana.

Pro-Telangana parties criticise PM

The Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC), TRS and other pro-Telangana parties on Wednesday criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s remarks that the Centre was trying to arrive at a consensus on Telangana issue.
“We condemn the remarks of the Prime Minister. The central leadership should be impartial. But we are getting the feeling that it has come under the vicious influence of the affluent sections of the ‘Seemandhra’ (Rayalaseema and coastal AP regions),” JAC Convener M Kodandaram told reporters.
“We appeal to the Prime Minister and Congress leaders not to betray Telangana. The consensus came long ago. As many as 36 parties gave letters to the Pranab Mukherjee committee (which worked during 2004-2009). It is not fair to betray us in the name of consensus,” TRS MLA and party president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s son K T Rama Rao said in Warangal.
Criticising the Prime Minister for saying that the Centre is trying to arrive at a consensus on Telangana issue, senior TDP MLA from Telangana N Janardhan Reddy claimed “it is shameful for the Prime Minister to say so”.
“Congress promised Telangana. It included the issue in the President’s address to a joint session of Parliament. It had announced on December 9 (in 2009) that it will start the process of formation of separate Telangana. It is shameful for the Prime Minister to talk about consensus now,” he said.
During his interaction with television editors today, the Prime Minister said: “I think this is a complicated issue and we are trying to evolve a consensus. The Home Minister had one round of meeting with all the political parties. He will call these political parties again because the first round was just for handing them over the Srikrishna Committee report.”

Srikrishna Committee was a ‘dud’

Telangana campaigners have demanded an unconditional apology from P. Chidambaram after the Centre’s top law official clarified in court that the Srikrishna committee had no “statutory standing”.
Leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the BJP accused the Union home minister and the Centre of “insulting and humiliating” statehood activists. Former NDA minister and BJP leader Vidyasadar Rao said Chidambaram had misled the people. “The committee had faked statistics and doctored analysis to deny the aspirations of the people of Telangana. It (the report) should be thrown into the dustbin.”
The TRS’s Harish Rao said his party had always suspected that the committee was nothing but a “sham” and warned that the Congress-led UPA would pay a heavy price for cheating the people of Telengana.
The joint action committee pressing for the statehood has lined up a “non-cooperation movement” from February 17 in the next phase of its campaign, and the Centre’s court stance has sparked fears of unrest during the protest.
The trigger for the outburst lay in Andhra Pradesh High Court, where attorney-general G.E. Vahanavati said during the hearing of a petition on the report demanding disclosure of some “sealed” sections of the report that the panel “was not a statutory body”. “It was not a commission of inquiry but a committee to consult people and make suggestions,” said Vahanavati, who had come to assist the judges in deciding the disclosure plea.
Legal experts agreed with the attorney-general. A commission of inquiry is set up by the Centre or a state under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, to deal with an issue of public interest. It is a statutory body, with all powers of a civil court.
The government is obliged under the act to place its report before the legislature — Parliament or Assembly — along with a memorandum on the action taken within six months of the document being submitted. It is a fact-finding body and does not decide an issue. So there are no adversarial parties before it.
By contrast, the experts pointed out that a committee is created by a ministry or department as a fact-finding body with powers limited to its terms of reference. Its proposals do not have to be placed in the legislature, nor do they have to be accompanied by a memorandum of action taken, which is a must in the case of a commission.
There have been some exceptions, however, including one that would still haunt Justice Srikrishna. The former judge had also probed the 1992-93 Mumbai riots but his report on one instance of police firing is yet to be acted upon.
The Centre could, if it wanted, have notified the Srikrishna panel as a commission under the inquiry act but did not. The committee’s reference was framed by a special secretary in the ministry of home affairs.
The petition in the high court has been filed by a former MP, Narayan Reddy, who has demanded that the Centre reveal a chapter in the Srikrishna report on the law and order situation. That part has been kept in sealed cover.

JBT movie screening with MP Dr. Vivek was successful in Cincinnati, OH

CincyTelanganites screened this much awaited movie ‘Jai Bolo Telangana’ on Feb 13 2011 in Cincinnati, Ohio. More than 120 Telugu speaking NRIs of Telangana and Seemandhra regions watched this movie. Everybody appreciated and admired Shankar’s (Writer, Producer and Director of the movie) efforts in showcasing the cultural renaissance, inspiring People’s emotions and delivering a powerful message through this wonderful movie. Also, his message ‘Let us be separated as regions for self governance but be united as people’ makes true sense and is very thought provoking to all human kind.
Cincinnati based Telugu speaking NRIs were touched deep in heart by watching this movie. People clapped and whistled for few heart touching scenes and reality based songs of Telangana movement of our current situation in the movie. Srikantha Chary’s self immolation and his statement before his last breath, Telangana farmers suicides, people leading miserable life forcing them to migrate to Gulf countries resulting in slavery life there, Cotton farmers suicides, bankruptcies of businesses in villages, police constable suicides for the injustice, etc. Everyone was very emotional shedding tears from some of the scenes in this realistic film. Particularly songs from legendary balladeer Gaddar ‘Podusthunna Poddu Meeda’ and from KCR’s poetry driven song ‘Gaaredi Cheysthunru Gadibidi Cheysthunru’ rocked the theatre and the ultimate response seen by the crowds was evidential of the popularity for Gaddar voice and KCR’s own way of communicating to masses on real life events. Everybody witnessed music director Chakri’s tremendous work and assured him that four crore Telangana people would certainly keep him and his wonderful work in their hearts.
CincyTelanganaites invited Dr.Vivek- Congress MP (Peddapalli), son of veteran Congress leader G.Venkataswamy a.k.a KAKA. Dr.Vivek took part in indefinite hunger strike along with his Congress colleagues in December 2010 at Gun Park, Hyderabad demanding the Government to lift away the cases against students of the Telangana region who took part in the separate Telangana statehood movement. CincyTelanganites appreciated his solidarity, his commitment and encouraged him to put pressure on the Congress high command to introduce the bill for creating Telangana, in upcoming Parliament session.
One of the audiences from Telangana region was referring to the scene in the movie that the heroine serves potato curry to her brother who becomes furious at being served what he doesn’t like and has never eaten. “If you cannot eat what you don’t like even once, why do you want to force other people to live with you when they want to go their separate way,” he asks Seemandhra leaders as the hall echoed to slogans and catcalls. Before Dr.Vivek’s departure, CincyTelanganites requested him to put pressure on the Congress high command to introduce Telangana bill in the upcoming Parliament sessions.
Cincinnati based Seemandhra NRI mentioned that he lived in Telangana region when his father was on government job duty in Medak district of Telangana region and clearly witnessed the difference with the lack of development in Telangana region when he used to compare the development in respective sectors with his own native Krishna district in coastal Andhra region and he insisted to have a separate state for Telangana as per peoples half century old demand for self governance. In addition to his solidarity, he asked one question about providing the security to Seemandhra people who are living in Hyderabad and worried about provocative statements of leaders. Dr.Vivek answered to his question that Andhra people are living happily now in madras without any any single security problem since Seemandhra got separated from madras state so future Hyderabad would follow the same pattern. From Nehru’s statement on public view about Telangana region and its people as masoom ladki (compared as Innocent women), he reassured that Hyderabad is been true cosmopolitan city from our great grand fathers age and Telangana people wouldn’t harm anybody as there are many other Indian nationals and foreigners are living there in Hyderabad besides to Andhra people. He tried to explain about YSR corruption that extreme corrupted people of his regime are making this kind of false allegations through their media channels so asked not to believe in that kind of false propaganda.
As all Good things come to an end, it was time to conclude the day’s proceedings. CincyTelanganites thanked each and every person who watched the movie and expressed their true opinion. Efforts of CincyTelanganites core group members Venu Kaila, Praveen Chennadi, Sitaram Boyinepally, Ganesh Kota, Hari Kasula, Shobhan Ponna, Ramesh Vemula, Chandra Madichetty and Sridhar Palley along with steadfast support and solidarity of all Telanganites in Cincinnati contributed to this event’s Big Success.

ESMA won’t stop us: Telangana Employee Union

Employee Union representatives from Telangana on Sunday assured Telangana Rashtra Samithi President K Chandrasekhar Rao that they would go ahead with the proposed non-cooperation agitation even if the government invokes the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA).
The assurance came in during a meering that KCR held with representatives of the employees’ union to deliberate on the proposed non-cooperation stir.
Addressing the employee leaders, KCR said that he would go on a ‘mass hunger-strike’ along with as many as 50,000 people to force the Centre to give in to the demand of a separate Telangana.
The TRS chief said that the movement would paralyse the state administration, leaving the government with no option but to agree to the Telangana protagonists’ demands.
Talking to mediapersons after the conference, the TRS chief said that though the formation of a Telangana state was imminent, the indecisiveness over the future of the capital was the main reason for the delay.
Warning the government of serious consequences if it resorts to invoking the ESMA to suppress the proposed non-cooperation agitation, KCR said that this would lead to even more intensified protests.
Employee union leaders said they were about to join the agitation following the call given by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TPJAC).
The leaders said they are ready to sacrifice their jobs for the cause of statehood.
“Jobs are not important to us. Our first priority is the formation of a Telangana state,” they declared.
The employee union leaders said that they would seek the support of all parties possible for the non-cooperation movement.

KCR plans to go on fast with 50,000 people

KCR is planning to go on a hunger strike once again, this time in the company of over 50,000 people.
He is understood to have made this amply clear while speaking at a meeting of the Telangana Joint Action Committee of Teachers, Employees and Workers today.
“If the government harasses Telangana employees for participating in the proposed non-cooperation movement, we will not allow it. I will sit on a hunger strike in the place where harassment takes place,” he said.
Later addressing teachers from Nizamabad after they joined the movement at Telangana Bhavan, he said that the TRS would stall the proceedings of the Assembly if harassment of government employees took place. “I will sit in the podium in the Lok Sabha,” he said and warned the government that there were four crore people behind the employees and it should realise that it was buying trouble if it resorted to any ‘misadventure’’.
Likening the Telangana movement to the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, the TRS chief said, “The movement is as strong as the First War of Indian Independence. It dates back to 1949 much before formation of AP state in 1956, The movement has reached a decisive stage now,” he said.

T’Congress! Atone for your Sins! Join non cooperation!

Dear T-Congress men!
It is time to prove your mulkiyat (nativity) and atone for your past sins. Or else, there is no other way except to construe the following, for your anti-Telangana activities;
Either you are ‘non-mulki’ genetically;
Or, You are in the pay of the incorrigibly corrupt ‘andhra-Congress’;
Or, You are emasculated enough not to defy your unscrupulous ‘adhishtanam’.
Any ways you are fit for Kaloji’s pronouncement.
For, several of your Political sins in the present episode of Telangana struggle, point in the direction of the above. Let us now recount the foolhardiness of your absurd actions in the T’Struggle.
1. You were never fully involved in the emancipation of Telangana. You were waning and waxing according to the ups and downs of the struggle, like the Moon in a month, as per the mood of your ‘adhishtanam’.
2. The commitment of the members of your ‘T-Congress club ‘varies from 100% to (-0%). There are a very few in 100%, a handful in 0 to (-0)% and majority in between with a great variation in degree.
3. In (-0)% category,T.Jayaprakash Reddy,Danam,Mukesh,R.Narsimha et al in particular & all of T-ministers in general are very conspicuous by their genetically non-mulki behavior.
4. In 0% category, worthies like Jaipal Reddy, Sashidhar Reddy look on this campaign with obvious calculated indifference.
5. The liberals like Kamalakar Rao, Yadava Reddy say everything in favor of Telangana but still think that adhishtanam can do no wrong.
6. The leaders in the upper rung of T-Congress like G S Reddy, Yashki, and Vivek are in the 100% category but to no avail, they are not able to achieve an iota of change in adhishtanam.
7. The rest, are just the camp followers of ‘adhishtanam’, they have no clue what is Telangana is all about; they do not want to know anything, except their political self importance and the bread crumbs of political power.
While this is the behavior of the T-Congress vis-a-vis, the ‘Dharma Yudhdham’ of Telangana, almost all A-Congress Elements are 100% in the ‘Adharma Yudhdham’ of anti-Telangana campaign without any care of ‘adhishtanam’.Why T-Congress cannot come together like this, for a legitimate cause of emancipation of Telangana? They try to drum beat their commitment when ever cornered by T’people.Whole of their insincere efforts all this while, pale in to insignificance, before the glorious act of Telangana women at Rayanigudem on a single day.
The attitudes of the T-Congress elements towards T’struggle make a very interesting reading.
1. Their often repeated refrain is that their being in ruling party cannot allow them to do certain things. Some of them take it for granted with some political arrogance. This ‘ruling party syndrome’ sounds very funny. Does it preclude them from saying what majority of their constituency demand and act according to their wishes? Does not the same handicap, if it is one, apply to their counter parts in Andhra? Is it to cover up their impotency against adhishtanam or is it the legacy of the feudal past, where in the henchmen of Nawab were always with Nawab, against their own people? This syndrome makes us to suspect the democratic credentials of even our 100% category of T-congress elements. In fact they should use this as a trump card in favor of their own people. They have lost that glorious chance that came in their way immediately after 9th December 2009 and have made Telangana people to fight with their backs against the wall and made to suffer un told miseries since then.
2. Their sheep like belief in Sonia Gandhi, in the face of her decade old deception and callousness to Telangana people and their dancing to the tunes of the coterie and core committee of Congress, makes one wonder whether These T- Congress elements have any sense of self respect and democratic spirit left in them.
3. It is an open fact that the state is run by all Andhra administration and the Governor. The adhishtanam through the CM and Governor is doing everything to break the spirit of Telangana struggle by proxy, by deploying thousands of central forces and forcing exams on students and grounding programs like ‘Rachchabanda’. The everyday brutalities of police on T’people in ‘Rachchabanda’ remind us britishraj.Yet, instead of protesting against such draconian measures, all the T-ministers are actively supporting and egging on this ‘all Andhra administration’ to break the resistance of Telangana people, for their selfish political interests. The brutalities of police on students and villagers including women, under the very nose of them is the most sinful act of T-Congress elements.
4. It is quite apparent that adhishtanam has no intention of expediting Telangana formation. It is not showing any hurry in convening that so called all party meeting and not showing any signs of bringing in T-Bill in the ensuing Parliament session. Yet our T-elements are not worried much and are silently sailing with the deceptive acts of adhishtanam, with some play acting.
T-Congress elements, by and large are proxy to the un ethically deceptive scheme of their adhishtanam to dragon ‘Telangana issue as long as possible and smother it completely if it can be done. They have baulked cowardly at the grand chance of forcing the center to grant Telangana, in the aftermath of December 9th 2009.At least now they can take a leaf out of the glorious act of KU girl students and Rayanigudem women, in subjugating the state government and making them to run for cover. Now all of them should join the civil disobedience of Telangana people without any non sensical reservation hitherto showed by them and force their adhishtanam to grant Telangana state. It is a chance for them to atone for their past sins. If they baulk this time, it is very much certain that, the only way open to Telangana people is the ‘dictum of great Kaloji’.They will be buried ,if not literally, metaphorically in their political graves.
They should know, from the example of CBN, You can deceive all the people for some time, some people for all the time, but not all the people for all the time.

‘Jai Bolo Telangana’ ends the cultural suppression of Telangana

Jai Bolo Telangana (JBT) marks the cultural renaissance of Telangana. For a region that was always ignored and for a language that was ridiculed at in the Telugu movies, to take the centre stage and be received with aplomb, the transformation is dramatic. Obviously, the movie owes its assertiveness ( say release) to the Telangana peoples movement. Without which, this breakthrough in Telangana cultural renaissance wouldn’t have been possible. In all probability, we will now be bombarded with many more Telangana movies, maybe with the same theme too, following the reception JBT got.
JBT has its story weaved around a couple in Love and in the backdrop of the Telangana movement. The ground realities of the Telangana movement explode in the aftermath of the December 9 and take control of the couple’s destiny. The movie conveys how the movement and its sentiments transcended down to the common man and yet how the powerful plutocrats try subverting democratic processes for their benefits and increase the unrest in the movement. The love story is used to weave and anchor the wider issue of Telangana statehood. As the movie proceeds, this background of the movement slowly overpowers the love story and takes centre stage in the climax. The love story is well-written with good dialogues and is enacted by decent acting. And it clearly conveys the point that the Telangana movement is about demerging the region and not dividing the people. However, JBT does not spend too much time explaining how Telangana has been cheated in, say jobs and water. It, to an extent, succeeds in showing how Telangana is suffering today but did not focus much on how things came to this pass. So, an outsider would be none the wiser about the heartburn behind the movement after watching the movie. But the movie does show how strong the movement is today and records the ground realities for posterity.
JBT, in today’s context, is no mean achievement. The media is deliberately ignoring the movement and suppressing the truth. The best example is how they blackened out all news of how 2.5 million people converged in an unprecedented way for the Telangana Mahagarjana in Warangal. This movie goes to villages, towns and cities and supports the cause which the regional and national media tries to continuously ignore. JBT encourages all Telanganites by speaking the truth aloud. Anyone who has doubts should listen and see Gaddar singing “podustunna poddu meeda nadustunna kalamaaa poru telanganama..”. In the Houseful show at Kukatpally theatre ‘Arjun’, where I watched the movie, the response was unbelievable. The crowd sang along the whole song which exemplified the uncompromising struggle for Telangana. Similarly, ‘Garadi chestundru..’ song by KCR captured the trickery and gimmickry Telangana is facing and trying to overcome. These songs and the title song documented the movement and strengthened the cause. Despite the poor technical aspects, some bad acting and some lacklustre scenes, JBT is a breakthrough and a honest depiction of the struggle.
JBT marks the coming of age of Telangana in the political space and without doubt, this would force the Telugu film industry to think twice before they try stereotyping the people of the region as comedians/villains henceforth. Jai Bolo Telangana marks the end of Telangana’s cultural suppression. Jai Bolo Telangana.

Non Co-operation Movement – Last Nail in the Coffin of UAP

The non cooperation movement is all set to start and the state government did nothing except having a namesake meeting with the TNGOs and urging them to forego the movement as the issue of separate Telangana is not in the state government’s jurisdiction.
Telangana is gearing up for a massive agitation to achieve separate statehood. The non-cooperation movement called for by Telangana Joint Action Committee from February 17 is no doubt a crucial phase in the agitation for formation of separate Telangana state. It will be successful, and it is definitely going to rock the Central government to its bottom.
Going by the action plan announced by the JAC, there would be no electricity supply; there would be no sweeping of roads, no lifting of garbage and no disposal of sewerage. People of Telangana would not pay electricity bills, water cess, property tax and toll tax. The Telangana employees in the APSRTC would not operate bus services and even if the RTC runs the buses with the help of other staff, the people will not purchase tickets. Only emergency services like hospitals, ambulances and drinking water supply would be exempt from the strike. As a prelude to the non-cooperation movement, the Telangana activists would take up “dandora” (door to door campaign) on the non-cooperation movement on Sunday; The Telangana activists would court arrest on February 15 as part of “Jail Bharo” agitation by taking up rallies and demonstrations across the region; there would be storming of the houses of public representatives on February 16; picketing in front of all the government offices on February 18, followed by demonstrations on all national highways on February 19. If there is no response from the Centre even after that, the entire Telangana would remain shutdown indefinitely from February 22.
The non-cooperation movement, coinciding with the beginning of the budget session of the state assembly on February 17, will be a major embarrassment to the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in the state. The Congress leaders from Telangana, though not part of the JAC, have no option but to extend support to the movement. The Congress government made a vain bid to prevent the Telangana employees from going ahead with the strike by holding talks with the JAC leaders. But they are adamant on going ahead with the strike. The Chief Minister had already tasted the ire of Telangana women at his Rachchabanda programme held in Warangal on Thursday. So, he knows what impact it would have on the government. Though he asked the officials to make alternative arrangements, it is only lead to more unrest.
The only thing the government can do is to see that there is no major law and order breakdown in the state. If Kiran wants to crush the movement by provoking the Telangana agitators and then use the force to crush them, it would only compound his problems. Since the solution to the Telangana issue is not in his hands, the Centre should act quickly and make up its mind on providing a lasting solution to the problem without any delay.
The state authorities seems more interested in provoking the agitators and hence adding more paramilitary and other security forces from the neighbouring states, the state already has a 50 battalion police force deployed in various key places of Hyderabad city and other Telangana districts.

Talks fail, Telangana staff for non-cooperation

The repeated attempts of the state government to please the employees notwithstanding, the Telangana Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers and Workers today reaffirmed its decision to participate in the non-cooperation movement from February 17 under the leadership of the TJAC (Political).
But ministers hailing from the region have put on a brave face stating that the government has not made alternative arrangements as it is confident of convincing the employees to call off their agitation.
The Cabinet sub-committee comprising ministers A Ramanarayana Reddy and D Rajanarasimha and chief secretary SV Prasad, along with officials, held talks with JAC representatives at the Secretariat here today. But the talks failed.
After hour-long discussions, Ramanarayana Reddy said the demands raised by the Employees JAC were under the purview of the Centre and not the state. He urged the JAC to withdraw its notice as it would severely affect development of Telangana and other regions.

Andhra Pradesh’s GSDP at 5.65 Lakh Crore Rupees

The state is doing extremely well despite the recession in the last three years. The primary sector would have created a record had not the heavy rains damaged the agriculture crop in August, September and November months of 2010. The impact of these heavy rains was huge on the agriculture income, said Mr P Prakasam, director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics.Â
In spite of apprehensions that the Telangana agitation and political instability will hit the state hard in terms of investments and development, all the apprehensions proved to be wrong. Despite negative propaganda from some of the sectors about the separate Telangana agitations, Andhra Pradesh has actually been growing steadily in the last 10 months of this financial year.
As per the figures finalised by the Directorate of Statistics and Economics, AP’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has surpassed the national average in the last few months. While the national annual growth rate for the current fiscal is projected to be 8.6 per cent, the state is all set to register a growth rate of 8.89 per cent. In terms of rupees, the state’s GSDP is slated to touch an all-time high of Rs 5.65 lakh crore as against Rs 4.75 lakh crore in 2009-10. Hyderabad city is topping the list with an income of Rs 42,000 crore followed by Visakhapatnam (Rs 36,000 crore) and Ranga Reddy (Rs 33,000 crore). While the country’s per capita income is projected to grow by 17.3 per cent to Rs 54,527 in 2010-11 from Rs 46,492 in the last year, the state is on course to achieve a per capita income of Rs 60,224 when calculated in terms of current prices. Last year, the state’s per capita income was Rs 44,081.Â
Leading the growth of the state is the agriculture sector. This sector is expected to grow at a rate of 8.9 per cent as compared to the national growth rate of 5.4 per cent. In the service sector too, the state is on course to achieve a growth rate of 9.61 per cent as against the national growth rate of 9.59 per cent. Industry is projected to retain a steady 7.79 per cent growth rate as compared to the national growth rate of 8.1 per cent.
State officials are confident that the same growth rate will be maintained in the new fiscal too, notwithstanding the Telangana agitation and political instability.

MIM Losing Ground in Telangana Districts

The on going movement for separate Telangana is eating away the clout the Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has been enjoying for a long time among Muslims in the district. A majority of Muslims in the region are supporting separate state while the MIM is not committal on the issue.
The success of the meetings named Telangana Muslims Garjana organised in 10 districts recently by the Jamat-E-Islami-E-Hind, is an indication of cracks in the base of the MIM. Thousands of Muslims participated in these meetings, including traditional supporters of the MIM, though prominent local leaders of the MIM did not attend.
Muslims are gradually rallying behind organisations like the Jamat-E-Islami Hind and Forum for Peace and Justice which are in the forefront in support of a separate Telangana state, while MIM instead preferring for a united Andhra Pradesh. The local surveys showing that the Muslims will vote in favour of TRS if and when the elections held.
The MIM has a substantial base in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Medak districts and had representatives in the now defunct civic bodies of Bhainsa, Adilabad, Karimnagar Nizamabad. Its candidate was elected for the deputy mayor’s post in the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation.

No Merger – It will be ‘Bardoli’ All Over!

The Congress & Co., looks like has come in to acquisition mode. Why? Is it because of strength of the Company? Or the fear of bankruptcy? Do they think that just because they have succeeded in roping in a quixotic PRP, they have the strength to acquire every party? What is the rationale behind the proposal of merger of TRS with Congress? Is it because TRS has only 10 seats in the assembly and 2 in Parliament? And will be easy pickings?
TRS did try several permutations and combinations with Congress and TDP, major political parties of A.P. with the hope of getting a solution to its avowed objective of Telangana. Some of those efforts may look questionable in the hindsight. But they were done in desperation as reactions to the intransigence of Congress Party in keeping its word since 2004, in this present episode of Telangana struggle. This mess for the last about 10 years, has thrown up some stark facts, and have exposed the true colors of Congress,TDP,PRP etc.,These parties, with their duplicitous agenda on Telangana were able to confuse and get fractured electoral results. After December 9, 2009 Telangana people have clearly understood the duplicity. Today except TRS and BJP in the state no other political party is fully for Telangana state. It took ten years for TRS and Telangana people to separate the political grain from the chaff about Telangana.
It is not just the number of seats of TRS in assembly and Parliament. After 9th December 2009, the events that took place spontaneously by the explosion of suppressed feelings of all sections of people of Telangana have changed the whole scenario. Though TRS has provided main political direction, the students, the lawyers, the intelligentia, the folk artists have independently rose to the occasion after clearly understanding the real colors of Congress, TDP and PRP and forced to form a JAC, affiliating all the non political Telangana fronts along with TRS and BJP.TRS strength has grown to massive proportions with the support of all this apolitical fronts, particularly after the by elections. Though the JAC was prepared to give some political space to Telangana Congress and TDP elements, they have spurned it viciously with their political arrogance. In the process they have lost their credibility, the TDP is in the last stages of its demise.Telangana Congress leaders in the face of their high commands’ unprincipled behavior at the behest of andhra congress are behaving slavishly and are digging their own graves. It will not be too long before they find themselves in the same boat as Telangana TDP.The Police Raj and the ‘Rachchabanda’ in Telangana unleashed by the ‘all Andhra CM’ is accentuating this process.
When the scenario is like this, why Telangana congress ‘nincompoops’ like KK, Sarve are touting the idea of merger of TRS with Congress. Congress is being pushed to its tether’s end by Telangana people. The upcoming non cooperation from 17 th February on the heels of ‘Rachchabanda’may become the final nail in the coffin of Congress Party in Telangana. It is true that, TRS several times in the past has thrown the gauntlet of merger at congress for expediency of Telangana state, but, congress never picked up the gauntlet. on the other hand it has scorned it, increased its menacing opposition to Telangana state and has caused untold misery to people and the death of hundreds of youth. Now as it is on the brink of political bankruptcy and being pushed to its tether’s end, is looking for mergers. Now no body in Telangana is prepared to wear the flowers of Congress in their ears.
Congress Party now has to contend with not only with TRS but JAC and other political fronts in Telangana. The Congress should know that except Telangana Congress & TDP MPS and MLAs every Telanganite is in the struggle for Telangana.TRS cannot afford to take decisions on Telangana without the affirmation of JAC and other fronts and KCR himself has endorsed this situation several times in recent past.
Congress Party has never been good to Telangana, whether it is Nehru, Indira Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi. In actual fact Congress Party is the root cause for the last 54 years unremitting agony of Telangana people. It will be suicidal for TRS to merge with Congress at this stage. At best it can think of coalition with Congress Party till it gets its own power in Telangana state. Because, if TRS merges with Congress Party , even if Telangana state is formed, the shots will be called by Andhra congress via the high command. It will be a proxy government of andhras, for as every body knows, andhra leaders can corrupt even ‘Paramapita Brahma’.The allegedly doctored SKC is a live example. If Some amends are to be made for the ravages of Telangana by andhras, Telangana state should be ruled by true Telangana elements, not the impotent Telangana Congress leadership via their notorious ‘coterie’ of their callous high command.
The congress Party is in doldrums, it does not know what is going to happen to it in the ensuing Parliament session. While it was in a position to take far reaching decisions and consolidate its position, it has frittered away those chances with unscrupulous poltics. Even now they appear not to have made up their mind on Telangana State. They look like dragging it till 2014, if they can do it. But, it is for Telangana people, to take advantage of the situation and deliver a ‘coup de etat’ to Congress party. If Congress party realizes and helps Telangana formation, we can help it to survive with coalition. If it does not, let us not bother about its future.Let us hound it relentlessly and go for its jugular. It may create some political upheaval and Telangana state may emerge like ‘Phoenix’ out of the ashes.
Therefore the need of the hour is not merger with Congress Party. It will be ‘Bardoli’ like civil disobedience at its best all over Telangana. The spirit of women of Rayanigudem (Warangal) is the inspiration.

Kiran Reddy faces T women’s wrath

Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, who went ahead to conduct Rachchabanda programme in the hotbed of Telangana region despite T protagonists’ warnings and bandh calls, faced a deafening barrage of `Jai Telangana’ slogans from women and was forced to abruptly end his speech at Rayanigudem village in Warangal district on Thursday.
It was worse at Vallemkunta in Karimnagar when his party MP G Vivek raised `Jai Telangana’ slogans and demanded formation of separate T-state much to the chagrin of the CM.
In fact, both districts observed a complete bandh with educational institutions, petrol bunks, hotels, private establishments and cinemas remaining closed in protest against the CM’s visit. The protestors squatted in front of RTC bus depots and did not allow the buses to move out, while autos stayed off the road in solidarity.
After conducting Rachchabanda at a government school in Rayanigudem where he doled out sops to the sparse crowd, he addressed a public meeting at nearby Kottur village in Naxal-infested Mulugu mandal. As soon as he got up to address, Kakatiya University girl students started shouting slogans asking him to go back. Soon, 2,500 women started shouting `Jai Telangana’ slogans vociferously even as the CM was addressing them. Despite his pleas, they did not stop.
An angry CM called off his address and went away in a huff. The small village was surrounded by a strong force of 6,000 cops for the CM’s meeting. Curiously, only women were allowed for the meeting and no men were to be seen. At Mulug, five TRS activists climbed a cell tower to protest the tour, while Warangal West MLA Vinay Bhaskar (TRS) and his followers were stopped by cops at Hanamkonda by the cops. The MLA was arrested.
Earlier, Congress MP Vivek created a flutter by shouting slogans in support of Telangana much to the discomfiture of the CM at Vallemkunta in Manthani mandal, while journalists showed placards demanding separate Telangana and wore black badges. Several MRPS activists were lathicharged when they raised slogans in support of categorisation at the meeting.

Telangana Congress leaders in dilemma

With no word on Telangana statehood coming from the Centre, they find the going tough with the TRS and the TJAC going full throttle with their agitation. They seem to be worried about the non-cooperation movement to be organised by the TJAC partners from February 17, which will bring the state administration to a standstill.
Congress leaders, who cannot take part in the non-cooperation movement for obvious reasons, are hoping against hope for an indication from Delhi to help them tide over the crisis.
According to sources in the Congress, MLAs, MLCs and ministers have coalesced into one group while the MPs formed another, and are making separate efforts to bring pressure on the government while, at the same time, taking care not to hurt the party high command. The only hope that keeps them going is that the high command understands the ground situation and will do something.
The party’s elected representatives in the region may declare support for the noncooperation movement for people’s consumption and undertake a journey to Delhi and try to meet Sonia Gandhi.
They are expected to visit Delhi on February 14 and 15.
If the high command remains unmoved, then some leaders might take part in the noncooperation movement in a way to demonstrate their commitment to the cause but not to defy the high command.
They will continue to meet now and then to let people know that they too are doing whatever is possible within their capacity for the T cause.
MP and CWC special invitee K Keshava Rao, who is playing a key role in the Congress MPs’ camp, is going to Delhi to explain the urgency of the issue to Congress top leaders.

Should TRS merge with congress?

Telangana state formation is round the corner. The die is cast now. The final configuration is put up through formulations. Congress has a handicap of not having any solid intermediate caste’s support in Andhra. Chiranjeevi, although he can attract these masses, does not have any leadership qualities to keep his flock together. The mutual inadequacies are mopped up by the merger. Chiranjeevi is an intellectual light weight. His samajika Telangana or Samikya andhra are mere gimmicks for his survival. He has no firm conviction on anything. How can a person who has never read a newspaper have one. Erosion of congress caused by jagan will be adequately filled by this chap, though.
Now the heat is turned on to KCR to merge TRS with congress. The congress pygmies of Telangana are commenting on variously. KK says in his jumbled voice that KCR had promised merger a while ago and he will abide by it. MP, Sarve satyanarayana, in safari suit trying to look youthful finds KCR selfish and greedy now, by saying that, TRS is a party of single objective but is now selfishly thinking of ruling Telangana.
Let us see how we should analyse this situation.
First, let us compare chiranjeevi with KCR and his party. KCR goes down in the democratic nation’s history as a person who achieved a socio-political goal of formation of Telangana by relentlessly and adroitly designing a movement ,calibrating and advancing it in an ingenious way. It deserves some PhD dissertations in political and psephological studies. I found a paper written in an American university in California on him. Psychologically speaking, he must have tried to actualise himself and his region in the broader frame work of NTR’s Telugu desam where he was disillusioned by the high handedness of Andhras. He set out for himself and a handful of other people to get Telangana state like Castro and his men did in Cuba. In the last one year he brought the beat to a crescendo initiating it with a fast. He is exclusively calling the shots now. He has set the ball rolling for the finals from 17th Feb with non-cooperation movement. Centre and the state leaders of congress are scurrying for safety and solution before that deadline. Telangana state is inevitable. There may be some fireworks at the closing time though. Comparing him with chiranjeevi is stupid. KCR is a man with a mission. Chiranjeevi is a man in search of a post retirement profession. Then why is congress comparing KCR with chiranjeevi ?
KCR, although not complete and little naïve, has some ideas and understanding on how Telangana has to be reconstructed; but it was not forceful enough. Today, congress is trivialising the existence of TRS as it has not talked enough on how it is going to build Telangana state. He never cited for instance, Mahathir Mohammed who built Malaysia from a wretched backward nation to a front runner. See how David Cameron, Obama visualise the future for their countries. KCR’s repeated utterances of free top class education for every Telangana child and Ganga Jamuna tehhaseeb for Hindu Muslim unity are not sufficient. He has to be more aware of developmental politics and reconstruction politics. He has to learn about how Russia’s ‘Peter the Great’ toured Europe incognito, working as carpenter, to know about the advancement of Western Europe. He might be uttering about making an SC the first chief minister and a Muslim the first deputy chief minister to nullify his upper caste image but that is not enough for the development of the Telangana state. We need fiery youthful leadership from entire community of Telangana with a great sense of urgency and opportunity.
Those who might say that Telangana state is the first priority and development is next are sadly mistaken. Movements have to be built on the dreams of future. We have to show how different Telangana will be if it is an independent state. It is the safeguard agaist native Madhu kodas and jagans emerging in Telangana. One has to talk about the plans and projections of how we are going to create jobs for the millions of Telangana youth and tell about how numbers add up. Keep talking and dreaming to act on something like building a grid of super-fast trains connecting all regions of Telangana and make the rest of Telangana a suburb of Hyderabad reachable in an hour’s time. Through this, make massive economic expansion by making it an industrial, software, agricultural, horticultural and orchard giant. Once I was talking to a Malaysian in line of my job. I asked him what is so special of Mahathir of Malaysia. He said that he thinks big and thinks like a Whiteman.
KCR should learn more; read more, reflect and meditate more about developmental politics, leadership in development; and set bench marks for the future leaders of Telangana state. He should develop policy and models for health, education and welfare, which will depoliticise these areas so that no one will use them as populist measures for vote gathering, as congress and YSR has been doing all along. He should state Telangana state’s position on mines, forests, millions of beedi workers, minimal reservation for the natives in private sector. He should develop fine band of leadership in the cultural and historical ethos of Telangana for the future. There are cooperative socialist models of Chinese market socialism; welfare models of Scandinavia, there are models which prevent crony capitalist’s kleptocratic bureaucracy. As KCR never spoke on these lines but only on electoral calculus to corner congress and force it form Telangana, today congress is asking it to close shop as the mission is going to be accomplished shortly, asking him to follow suit of Chiranjeevi.
No one in congress is capable of realising the dreams of Telangana. It has not grown in the culture of the Telangana movement. It has no stake in Telangana state or its development. TRS merging with it, is like saving Telangana from one set of wolves to give it to another set of wolves. If TRS merges with congress, all the values and dreams of the movement will go down the drain. Today’s TRS is different from pre 2009 dec TRS. KCR and TRS should develop and remain as watch dogs for Telangana as he himself has mentioned. It can do more service to Telangana state by remaining independent than merging with congress. Today, TRS is in a position to swallow congress in Telangana. If it merges with congress the alternative political space will be filled by Telugu desam as time goes by; which will dampen the very spirit of Telangana and keep up the influence “Andhra Babu” and Andhras.
If congress re-announces Telangana before 17th February it will get a bit of credit to move about in Telangana; if it does it after 17th it will be forgotten. Either way Telangana should not care about them, let alone merging with them.
TRS’s existence itself, with more broad-based representation, benchmarks assertion of the nativity of future parties in Telangana as the Dravida Kazagam has done in Tamilnadu. It is important that KCR, be advised on the historicity of TRS and this moment.
On the contrary, if KCR decides to merge TRS with congress it will be a historical blunder similar to merger of Hyderabad state into Andhra.
Thanks M K Rao for sharing

TRS will not merge with Congress: Harish Rao

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Deputy Floor Leader in the Assembly Harish Rao on Monday stated that there was no question of his party merging into the Congress on the lines of the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP).
Speaking to media persons at the Gun Park, Harish Rao said that a section of the media had been speculating that the TRS would follow the PRP and merge with the Congress.
Harish Rao was speaking after flagging off a bus yatra taken up by Telangana Lecturers Forum from the Martyrs Memorial statue at Gun Park. Telangana Political Joint Action Committee Convener Kodandaram was also present on the occasion.
The bus yatra will cover all the 10 districts in the region and create awareness on the need for introduction of Telangana bill among people.
The members of Telangana Lecturers Forum took up this bus yatra after paying tributes to the martyrs who died for the cause of Telangana.
Harish Rao said that while the media might air its views on the subject of a possible merger of TRS with Congress, there was no truth in such reports. “The TRS will not merge with any party and will continue its efforts towards achieving a separate state,” he stated.
“The TRS will not fall into the trap of Congress and will continue to maintain its own identity,” the MLA stated.
Harish Rao further demanded that the centre make its stand on the Telangana state issue clear, and threatened to stall the proceedings in the budget session of the Assembly if any concrete assurance did not come forth from the Congress government on the demand to introduce the Telangana bill in Parliament.
Harish Rao’s allegations that the centre was dillydallying on the Telangana issue and testing the patience of Telangana people were echoed by Prof. Kodandaram, who called upon political leaders to make united efforts to materialize Telangana state. Prof. Kodandaram also asked politicians from Telangana to rise above party affiliations and work towards the common goal of attaining separate statehood.
He advised the elected representatives to boycott the budget session in order to mount pressure on the centre to introduce the Telangana bill.

Cong-PRP merger a good omen for Telangana: KCR

TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday said the merger of PRP, a strong votary of united state, with the Congress is a positive sign for the formation of Telangana as it will eliminate a strong united Andhra votary from the political scene.
After merger, Chiranjeevi himself had made clearthat he would abide by the Congress decision on Telangana, KCR pointed out and felt that it is a positive sign for the formation of Telangana. He said a TRS delegation would meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime minister Manmohan Singh before kick starting the non-cooperation movement from February 17.
He ruled out the merger of the TRS with the Congress as advocated by Congress leader K Keshava Rao. He also added that the party would continue to exist before and after Telangana formation.

Chiranjeevi’s PRP merges with Congress

Chiranjeevi on Sunday announced the merger of his Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) with the ruling Congress after a meeting with Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi in the national capital. He said there was “no opposition” from within his three-year-old Andhra regional party to the merger.
“PRP will now merge with Congress. As of now, Chiranjeevi is part of Congress family,” Union Law Minister, M. Veerappa Moily told reporters here, with Chiranjeevi standing by his side.
Asked if he expected a cabinet berth, Chiranjeevi said, “I don’t expect anything. It is their (Congress) duty to allocate…”
Chiranjeevi, who had floated PRP in 2008, said he remained committed to social justice. “The merger will help in achieving the goal of social justice.”
“I am for the betterment of the people of the state”, he told newsmen.
Saying that there were no motives, Chiranjeevi said he was “not going to join the state government. There is no such idea”. It is a historic day, he added.
The meeting between Sonia Gandhi and Chiranjeevi Sunday took place at the invitation of the Congress president.
The decks were cleared for the merger following a meeting between Defence Minister A.K. Antony and Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad early this week.
The Congress has been worried over the threat posed by former party MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to its government in Andhra Pradesh and had been trying to woo the PRP to either merge with it or join the government.
The PRP has 18 legislators in the 294-member assembly. The Congress with 156 members, enjoys a slender majority.
The merger evoked mixed reactions in Andhra Pradesh. While the majority of PRP legislators welcomed the move, at least two legislators supporting Jaganmohan Reddy criticised Chiranjeevi.
There were celebrations at the PRP headquarters in Hyderabad as supporters and fans of Chiranjeevi said they would continue to back him irrespective of the party he is in.
State Congress spokesman N. Tulasi Reddy said the merger would strengthen the party in Andhra Pradesh.
However, Congress leaders from Telangana, including ministers, MPs and MLAs, went into a huddle to discuss the development as Chiranjeevi is opposed to the demand for a separate Telangana state. They see the development as an attempt by Congress party to weaken Telangana movement.
Jaganmohan Reddy’s camp hit out at Chiranjeevi, saying the merger was for his selfish interests.

“Jai Bolo Telangana”, a quintessential movie of Telangana.

Yesterday I have taken a detour of travails of Telangana poople’s past and peeped into their future (rather hazily). Yes, I have seen and enjoyed “Jai Bolo Telangana”, a quintessential movie of Telangana.
A zillion kudos to you, Shanker Sir.
The movie brilliantly captured not only the history and the piteous lot of Telangana people through four generations of a family but has high cinematic values. The protagonist representing the present generation of youth of Telangana who have taken to agitation out of their frustrations but not egged on by some self-serving leader and choosing the path out of considered opinion formed out of first hand experience of suffering at the hands of Seemandra Rule. The heroin represented the sane and majority opinion of Seemandra people and the Aloo curry metaphor was brilliant in showing the direction other misguided elements of youth. Some of the highly educated Andhra friends of mine agreed to my strong support to Telangana after I convinced them of the long injustices done to Telangana people.
The role of intellectuals and their personal appearance in the Cinema summarized the direct and proactive role played by them in almost all major movements in Telangana particularly since 1960s of hues.
The artists were never separate from these movements and their role is more direct in Telangna than elsewhere in the country or world now or at any time in the past. By including Vimalakka and Gaddar songs, the director did justice to the cause his movie aimed at.
The lawyers who were always privy to the machines of the exploitative class were represented by Desapathi and his belatedly and yet timely espousal of the cause shows the contemporary reality of the present movement.
The brutality of the police, the reality of the poverty-ridden Telangana villages, the sensuality of romance, the sacrificial self-immolating intensity of the students, the enviable and almost saint-like self-control of young agitationists, the resounding juxtaposition of two-side violence of 1969 and one-side(from govt) violence of the present movement and the concomitant maturity of the youth, the brutal of apathy of the non-committal Telangana leader particularly of Congress Party(tri-color kanduvas) and their callous orders to attack the peaceful agitationists have been so brilliantly dramatized to such an extent that in the hands of a lesser director, the move would have sounded like a dry documentary.
The metaphor of using newspaper (a symbol of informed opinion) as Telangana movement snubbed by suitcase (a symbol of cash stacked suitcases(for first hand proof read Insider by PV Narsimha Rao)) used to force the opinion of the High Command emissaries against reality to subserve the selfish short-term ends of leaders is simply amazing but too subtle to drive home the point to the ordinary people.
The role of Telangana Teachers and other Govt.employees was represented by a few words by their leader Mr.Goud. But their role should have been a little longer. Jayammma, rhyming with Bathukamma, is used a symbol of Telangana women power.
The shot-student’s father’s words of encouragement to his daughter have brought tears to the eyes and were inspiring. This attitude is true because in spite of such naked display of violence of police against students in OU on TVs, the students continued to participate in the movement which is a mark of approval of parents of telangana. Sacrifice is the abiding feature of Telangana people which is a much more powerful tool than weapons, money or chicanery.
The police officer preventing Chanti, who represented the misled youth of Andhra, from going ahead to kill the heroin, not to pretect law and order but to protect him on the orders of the top Andhra leaders, makes the move to stand on part with the best political movies of the world in use of insinuation.
Another feature of the movie is abundance of genuine humour which was seamlessly woven into the movie which kept the feature-film like.
The narrative was so captivating and editing was so good that we forgot to eat samosas and brought them to home along with the tears of sorrow on certain pathetic scenes and the tears of joy of elation that after such a long time we have genuine political movie of the class of ‘Z’, Battleship Potemkin, and The Dictator by Chaplin. This movie is highly refreshing and highly needed by the youth who are being constantly and nauseatingly fed by the sex and violence ridden decadent movies that have almost become something like marijuana.
But why have shied away from showing a clear cut direction yet not visible at present? Why there is no mention of the pro-telangana dalit elements of Andhra which is a reality and a Telangna supporting event? .
That I typed out this small piece of opinion directly in fifteen minutes is proof of the greatness of this movie. I nominate this movie to Oscars.

Two retired IAS officials join TRS

Two retired IAS officials A K Goel and A Ramalaxman plunged into the Telangana movement by joining the TRS in the presence of party president K Chandrasekhar Rao at Telangana Bhavan here on Friday.
Goel retired from service last year and Ramalaxman in 2004. Speaking at a meeting, the two retired IAS officials said that they would serve the party in accordance with the wishes of KCR.
Goel, whose hails from Haryana, said he had taken part in the movement for bifurcation Punjab during his student days that eventually led to the creation of Haryana. There were similarities between Harayana and Telangana movements, he said and claimed that the small state developed rapidly and was of the view that the same would happen in the case of Telangana as well.
Ramalaxman said he hailed from Nalgonda district, and being a Telanganaite, he would do his best for the separate state movement.
Both the retired officials said they were not interested in contesting elections.
Calling on people from all walks of life to unite and intensify the T movement, KCR said in the second week of February, non-cooperation movement would be launched. All government employees would boycott their duties and stall government until the Centre introduced bill for Telangana in Parliament.
He came down heavily on the Telangana Congress MPs and MLAs for not quitting their posts. Telangana state would have become a reality had the Congress MLAs resigned and created a constitutional crisis last year. Referring to the film, ‘Jai Bolo Telangana’, KCR said it was receiving a positive response even in the Andhra region.

Frankenstein of YS – Congress & PRP theatrics

There is a great deal of discussion and speculation on the streaking visit of AK Anthony, the defense Minister and core committee member of congress Party, to Chiranjeevi, the PRP President in Hyderabad. In Telangana, congressmen comment with a varying degree of comprehension on this event. It essentially correlates with the position the commenting congressmen presently enjoying.Kaka says it is downright blasphemous and holds Sonia Gandhi responsible for such a sacrilegious act.Jeevan Reddy thinks that it is done to postpone Telangana formation. G S Reddy, MP says it is good for Congress both in Seemandhra and Telangana.Sariah, minister connects it to Telangana formation and thinks Sonia is doing this expressly to complete the formation of Telangana state. As always these political comments are half truths.
In Semandhra Congress elements are not amused with this honeymoon with PRP.Because the presence and vibrancy of PRP in Seemandhra do not warrant this extravagant treatment. The PRP is a failed experiment and about to die its natural death in due course, if it is left to itself. But it’s different in Telangana though the presence of PRP in the region is almost nill.Telangana congress elements view this act of congress high command in a different vein because of the context of Telangana State. The views are divergent depending on the chance/quantum of power vested with them. In the melee of the opininions, Kaka & Jeevan Reddy, appear to be nearer the truth.G S Reddy is indulging in the balancing act.B. Sariah is downright sycophantic.
It looks like PRP and Congress have played this drama, with some advance scripting. Perhaps this is meant to give some larger than life size image for PRP vis a vis Jagan factor. The speculation about crowd pulling, 70 lakh votes, a strong leader for Andhra region etc., is bull shit.Chiranjeevi has exhibited everything in him in the last one and half year, making it very clear that he is not made for politics. His credentials for doing anything good for the society are doubtful. His cinematic crowd pulling may not work much in future. May be he can be little useful in Seemandhra caste equations. This act is simply to make up political numbers of about 15 on the eve of the ensuing budget session of assembly, to counter a possible rebellion from Jagan faction.
This has no connection what so ever to Telangana state formation as some of our Telangana congress elements speculate so ecstatically. Primarily, so far Sonia Gandhi has not made up her mind on Telangana. She has no statesman like ability or courage to take such epoch making decisions. On the contrary she is still indulging in the political management of such a heartrending massive movement. She has kept well meaning counsel in the core committee away from influencing the decision on this all important issue. She depends on the Machiavellian machinations of her notorious coterie in micro managing the issue. Because of this, the situation has degenerated to present level in the state congress. If she had taken bold decisions based on the wise counsel, at right stages things would have not to come to this pass of begging for the help of a political ‘nincompoop’ like chiranjeevi. She has allowed the ‘Frankenstein of YS’ to grow over the years for her selfish political interests and now facing its challenge.
The alliance of Congress with PRP has nothing much to do with Telangana state. And may not augur well for Telangana formation. If PRP merges with Congress Party it can be different. But in the immediate future the concern of the congress is to ward off the challenge of Jagan. The congress high command will like to keep Telangana issue on the back burner till Jagan factor is resolved. Therefore it will let loose its machinations to take the issue beyond ensuing assembly and parliament sessions. Our Telangana Congress elements will bend backwards to accommodate congress high command to achieve this strategy. What will happen to this plot is in the realm of uncertainty and it is also very difficult to guess what will be the fallout for Telangana in this political melee.Congress Party would be happy to keep Telangana issue hanging in the air as long as it is possible, as it was doing for the last one decade.
Therefore, the hobnobbing of Congress Party and PRP with each other is no concern for Telangana people. It is another diversionary plan and will be enthusiastically supported by our stupid Telangana congress elements. These events are the result of the handiwork of congress high command itself. Such events will be cropping up time again. There is no need for Telangana people to allow these events to influence their tryst with State formation. They should manage these events and go ahead with their plan of forcing Central government placing the Telangana bill in parliament by creating over whelming political compulsions with or without support of Telangana legislators. For, slackening our struggle with the misplaced hope on congress party, believing in the obsequious beliefs of T-congress elements, would be suicidal. Congress Party will not complete Telangana State formation unless our people create a situation where it is like forcing it to the edge of a precipice. Let us do it.

Opinions differ on Congress – PRP alliance

Differences of opinion exist among the Telangana Congress leaders on the proposed alliance between the Congress and Praja Rajyam Party. Some of them view that it was an indication that the UPA government was not in favour of separate Telangana state, while others opine that the party leadership would want to strengthen the Congress in Seemandhra under the leadership of Chiranjeevi once Telangana state is formed.
Senior Congress leader Uppunuthala Purushotham Reddy today supported CWC member G Venkataswamy’s criticism on the proposed alliance between the Congress and the PRP. He, however, found fault with Kaka for his outburst at Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Talking to newsmen here, Purushotham Reddy argued that the Congress leadership should have consulted Telangana Congress leaders before going ahead to hold talks with Chiranjeevi who was for an state. Are we (Telangana Congress leaders) so useless?, he asked.
The senior leader asserted that time has come for all the Telangana MPs, MLAs and MLCs to resign their posts for Telangana cause. Congress core committee member and defence minister AK Anthony’s meeting with Chiranjeevi gives an indication that the Telangana state may not become a reality,’’ he added.
On the other hand, Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy noted that the proposed alliance between the two parties would help the Congress strengthen its base in Seemandhra region. Congress party would automatically strengthen in Telangana after separate state is formed. Chiranjeevi would abide by the Congress leadership’s decision (on Telangana issue) once he merges his party with the Congress. If he decides to have an alliance with the Congress, then there would be no future for the PRP since it has got no base in Telangana, he reasoned.
BC welfare minister Baswaraj Saraiah welcomed the Congress party’s efforts to forge an alliance with the PRP, and said that it gives an indication towards formation of separate T state.
“Chiranjeevi will have the leadership in Seemandhra region,’’ he opined.

A chat with Shankar on Jai Bholo Telangana

Director N Shankar’s filmography in Telugu includes Jayam Manadera, Raam, Bhadrachalam, Yamajathakudu to name a few. His films are focused on themes/concepts. He has now helmed Jai Bolo Telangana (releasing on February 4), a film based on the current statehood issue rocking Andhra Pradesh.
Shankar chats about the making of the film which is close to his heart.
Did you make Jai Bolo Telangana to highlight the current political scenario?
Yes, I want to focus on the current problem, the sacrifices made by people. I am depicting the struggle through the eyes of an artiste; through an art form.
How long did it take you to make the film?
On the 30th day ceremony of Srikanth Chari’s suicide (for Telangana), I announced the project. It has taken a year to make the film right from scripting, casting, shooting to post-production and completion.
What is the kind of research you did for the film?
I met people involved with the movement. I saw people’s enthusiasm and sacrifices. The film is shot from the people’s angle. I must say I had the support of all people from all regions of the state while making the film.
What is the format you have used considering the film is based on a serious issue?
It’s a feature film. In the past too, I did concept-based feature films. Jai Bolo Telangana is a realistic film. It’s a running movement and I ran along with it to capture it on film.
How did you choose Jagapathi Babu to play a role in the film?
He has a special appearance of about 15 minutes. He plays a character who sacrificed his life.
Why did you cast Smriti Irani in the film?
She fits the character, plus I wanted to add an element of freshness. She plays a pious, noble character.
What have you tried to convey through the film?
The pain, the human drama, the human relationships, the sacrifices made by the people.
Why were you passionate to make this film? It is said you were ready to even sell your property to make it…
I won’t get another opportunity to record this movement. Even as a child, I used to read about historical figures like Alluri Sitaramaraju and their struggle.
Did you finance the movie on your own?
I did it mostly on my own while some friends also helped out.
The Telangana problem has been simmering for many decades. Do you depict the struggle from the beginning?
The past (events in 1948, 1969, 1997) occupies 10 per cent of the footage, while 90 per cent of the film is based on current footage.
Does Jai Bolo Telangana offer a solution?
One must watch the film to see if it does or not.
Are you expecting any repercussions as a result of the film?
It may not. We have not hurt anybody. We have presented the matter from the people’s point of view. It has shown the sufferers and will touch people when they see it.
The film ran into problems with the Censor Board and was given an ‘A’ certificate. Did you have to compromise?
Yes, I had to compromise to some extent. The Board wanted intellectuals to see the film, hence the ‘A’ certificate.
The movie also stars Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leader K Chandrasekhara Rao and revolutionary ballad singer Gaddar. Gaddar has even sung a song. How did you get them to agree to the film?
The concept of cinema brought them together. I am only an instrument. In fact Gaddar is acting after three decades.
What was K Chandrasekhara Rao’s reaction after seeing the movie?
The reaction was positive. He was moved.
How do you expect the audience to react?
I think it will be positive. It will touch people.
Do you feel a short time of two and a half hours is enough to tell a more than 40 year old struggle?
Yes, it is a short time. It is not easy. Within the limitations of time, we have shown important junctures.
Where did you shoot the film?
I shot in Nagarjuna College (Nalgonda), Osmania and Kakatiya Unviersities and villages in Mahbubnagar, Warangal and Ranga Reddy districts.
Crowds must have thronged the spots where you shot the film. How challenging was it to shoot the film?
I am used to working with the crowds as I did so in my earlier films. It was difficult controlling them but they co-operated and I fulfilled what I wanted to do.
What are your thoughts on Telangana?
My thoughts are reflected in the film.

What Surjya Sen has anything to do with Telangana?

From Wikipedia…
Surya Sen (alternatively Surjya Sen, Bangla: সূর্য সেন pronounced Surjo Sen) (March 22, 1894 – January 12, 1934)
(also known as Masterda Surya Sen) (Bangla: মাস্টারদা সূর্য সেন) was a prominent Bengali freedom fighter, an Indian independence activist and the chief architect of anti-British freedom movement in Chittagong, Bengal (now in Bangladesh). He was born on 22 March 1894 in Chittagong district now in Bangladesh. He participated in nationwide non-cooperation movement as a revolutionary . He was arrested in February 1933 by British and was hanged on 12 January 1934. The Government of India released a commemorative stamp on him in 1977. Bangladesh issued a commemorative stamp on him in 1999.

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is a movie made about surjya sen. Abhishekh Bacchan plays the lead role. Released on December 2nd. I was in india from Dec 9th to Jan 11th. I went to see this twice in the second week after its release. Once in PRASADS on Dec 11th, According to Sakshi and Deccan, Movie is playing in this theater, Once i got to the theater with my cousin who is doing bachelors in IIT-Mumbai, they said they are not playing it and i could have walked away, But i watched Rakta Charitra – 2. Which was completely waste of time.
On dec 17th, we tried one more time. This time we checked even eenadu, According to news papers, movie is playing in Sapna 35MM. Went to the theater, Out of luck, They said movie got replaced by something else. We were kind of angry on news papers for posting false information. HMM, I kind of wondered why a movie about freedom fighter is not getting any interest from movie goers in city. Did my hyderabad lost the sensitivity/respect towards indian independence movement? Questions kept raising in my mind. I always thought telanganites are patriotic people and they love their country. I also remember the days of Sarfrosh, Border movies running full houses for 100 days and more. Anyway, My vacation ended, I returned to US.
Within first week i grabbed the DVD and watched the movie at home. Aaha, This was no accident. Surjya Sen can inspire the Telangana movement like he did in Chittagong. That lead the SA government to make sure this movie doesn’t play in theaters at all after a week. Not sure how this was in first week. I cant stop smiling at ignorance of our governer E. L . Narasimhan, Who is a kind of Defacto-CM trying every trick in his bag to stop telangana movement.
I feel better. Its not hyderabad or the people that lost the interest in movies related to independence. Its the Governer and the government who is shaking in their pants seeing Surjya Sens of Telangana Universities dont want the repeat of Chittagong in hyderabad. This makes me feel better, My hyderabad still loves movies about independence, Rest Assured Telangana is close to independence now than ever. They have restrictions on what we watch, What is showed on TV. I am sure British have tried same tricks and failed.
Surjya Sen : I dont hate Britishers, I hate what they are doing to my country and its people.
It resonates with Telanganites, Isn’t it?

Car rally for Telangana by Osmania doctors

Expressing solidarity for the demands of a separate Telangana state, doctors of the Osmania Medical College on Wednesday said that they would take out a car rally to Warangal on February 6th.
The doctors would address a public meeting at Warangal when they reach there. The doctors would also meet the people on the way and try to create awareness among them about the need for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to media persons at the college premises, Dr. Ramesh said that the rally would see government doctors, members of the Telangana Doctors Association, paramedical students and other medical staff participating.
He said that the rally would be flagged off from the Osmania Medical College and they would halt at Gun Park to pay tributes to the martyrs of Telangana at the Martyrs Memorial.
Dr. Ramesh added that Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao and Telangana Political Joint Action Committee Convenor Kodandaram would address the public meeting.

Venkataswamy plans for Telangana Congress !

Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and Telangana protagonist G. Venkataswamy on Wednesday said he would float a new party if expelled from the Congress for his remarks blaming the Congress president Sonia Gandhi for electoral reverses and corruption.
‘If I am expelled from the party, I will form the Telangana Congress to achieve separate Telangana state,’ said the octogenarian leader, who stunned the party by demanding Gandhi’s resignation Tuesday.
He also offered to withdraw his remarks against Gandhi if she agrees to the formation of a separate state. ‘I am ready to take back my remarks and even touch her feet if she accepts the demand for Telangana state,’ the leader said.
The former union minister triggered a storm by saying Gandhi’s continuance on the post would further undermine the party. He also raked up the issue of her foreign origin.
Softening his stand, the minister said he made the remarks out of fear that a separate Telangana state would not become a reality with the party’s tie-up with Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) of Chiranjeevi, who is opposed to bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
He had taken a dig at the leadership for sending A.K. Antony to Chiranjeevi’s house to beg for his party’s support to state’s Congress government.
Congress sources, however, said Venakataswamy made the remarks out of frustration as the party leadership was already contemplating dropping him from the CWC. The veteran leader has also been sulking ever since his claim for the post of president of India was ignored by the leadership.
Venakataswamy’s remarks evoked sharp reaction from party leaders. State Congress chief D. Srinivas condemned his statement, saying Gandhi’s sacrifices were known to everybody.
Many leaders, including MP V. Hanumantha Rao, ministers J. Geeta Reddy, Damodar Rajanarasimha and K. Venkat Reddy said that he had lost moral right to continue in the party.
Security was tightened at Venakataswamy’s residence here after Youth Congress threatened to stage protest against him. Activists of Youth Congress and other party workers met Srinivas, demanding immediate action against Venkataswamy.

‘Jai Bholo Telangana’ in U.S.A

‘Jai Bolo Telangana’, a much awaited movie that is set in the backdrop of recent Telangana and Andhra Agitations is coming to America starting February 04, 2011.
Director N. Shanker, a name to reckon within quality entertainers like Jayam-manadera, Encounter, and Sriramulayya, this time has come up with a film portraying current political scenario in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.
Some of the actors portrayed in the film are NOT reel life but real life leaders, activists, students, singers, lawyers, and journalists. This movie portrays real life instances and from the perspective all segments of people of Andhra Pradesh.
The film is produced and directed by by N. Shanker under the banner of Mahalakshmi Arts Productions, and Chakri scored the music, which is already a big success.
Ande Sri, Goreti Venkanna, Suddala Ashok Teja, Nandini Sidha Reddy, Gaddar, and K Chandrasekhar Rao penned songs for this movie.
Shanker confined that, Jagapathi Babu plays a Telangana revolutionary named Bandagi Gopanna. “It’s the most memorable character in Telugu cinema and I felt only Jagapathi Babu could do justice to it. When I narrated the story to him, he was impressed and immediately agreed to do the movie. He proved that artistes have no caste, region or religion. Bandagi is a Muslim name and Gopanna a Hindu name. Separate Telangana is the long-felt dream of four crore people following different religions and the character reflects that” Shankar Said in his preparation for the movie. “Jai Bolo Telangana reflects the current political scenario in the State. The “Garadi Chestundru” number written by KCR has become quite a rage. KCR penned a few songs as part of the Dhoom Dhaam campaigns. When I listened to those songs, the thought of having him write a song for the film came to my mind,”
We urge Not only all Telangana NRI’s to show strong solidarity to this movie but also All Telugu speaking individuals to watch the movie with families to understand the current climate in Andhra Pradesh and to. No one will go disappointed from watching this rare glimpse of current life and events in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Telangana, on the big screen, as it is a rarity for Telugu films to portray real life events with life like people.

Like him or not, ‘KaKa’ is right this time

Kaka is a cantankerous old man. Thinks of himself and his service to the country little too much and wants too much from Congress Party. Congress Party has already pampered him and his family little too much, and doled out little more than enough from Congress Kitty. Yet the old bugger is not satiated. He will be broadcasting his broadsides whenever he gets irritatead. All his broadsides generally are loaded with his egotism and are usually watered down and withdrawn later. His comments are generally are of not much consequence.
Yet, this time his broadside against Sonia Gandhi is stunningly accurate. Sonia Gandhi sending good upright Antony to a political pygmy and cheat Chiranjeevi to elicit support for her party is the height of her political bankruptcy. For any congress man worth his salt, it is an unmitigated insult.Venkat Swamy ate plenty of Congress salt, so he was righteously outraged at the sacrilege of Sonia Gandhi. The outrage is in the heart of every congressman or loyalist. It is Kaka who had the courage to say it. He may dilute his statement at the behest of his high command. But he had fired his first salvo and found the target.
Sonia Gandhi ably assisted by her self-appointed coterie is practicing degenenerative power politics in a democracy and obdurately pushing Congress Party towards its possible demise. Her renegade politics on Telangana State declaration is an unmistakable example of it.

Tunisia, Egypt and Telangana

Watching the ecstatic Egyptians waving their national flags while walking on a million-man march can make almost every human being on the planet go ecstatic. It is the greatest struggle of mankind – the struggle for freedom. Witnessing one such freedom struggle unfold before you, one cannot help but sympathize with these Egyptians. Every man who loves freedom for himself and for his fellowman cannot help but support these Egyptians in their struggle. Following what happened recently in Tunisia where angry and irate Tunisians came onto streets to kick out their autocratic President, now the Egyptians have come out onto streets in an attempt to overthrow Hosni Mubarak, the dictator for nearly 30 years. And the whole world is watching this grand spectacle on their TV sets. Almost all international media units are in Cairo to cover this march of humanity which is celebrating their struggle for freedom. Even Indian news media have sent their cameras and journalists to cover this event to bring it live into the homes of millions of Indians.
Telanganas feel happy for Tunisians and Egyptians, and congratulate them, but then they look at themselves and their plight, and that happiness slowly turns into sadness. The despondency is palpable in the hearts and faces of Telangana people, at their helplessness. Less than two months ago, nearly 2.5 million Telanganas marched to Warangal to convey only one message to India, “Give us Telangana”, and yet, nobody paid attention. NONE of the Indian national media covered it on TV. For these Indian media houses, million-people march of Egyptians is important and significant to be covered live, but not the million-people march of fellow Indians.
For nearly ten years now, Telanganas are in a continuous struggle seeking freedom, only as a state within Indian Union, and yet, it goes unnoticed by national and international media. Looks like only a freedom struggle under dictators in the international arena gets the attention, but not those struggles in autocracies like India which pose themselves as democracies.
Egyptian Army declared they will not fire upon their fellowmen. So humane, one admires. But when it comes to India it is quite different. India routinely fires upon its own people to crush all freedom struggles even if that struggle is for such an innocuous and legitimate thing as creating a state, something which is prescribed as a method in Indian Constitution to fulfill aspirations of its people. What happened to the greatest champion of people’s struggles for freedom in the last sixty years? Why did India turn from a champion of freedom to suppressor of freedoms?
It is the arrogance that the freedom that is attained by us is absolute and perfect and hence any future freedom movements within have to be illegitimate. If India admits there is a genuine people’s movement within, then that means it has not given its people the absolute freedom it thought it gave.
India touts itself as the greatest democracy in the world but does not hesitate to kill its own people that seek self-rule by forming new states. It discredits all freedom movements within, even when they are legal and legitimate movements that follow the prescribed steps of Indian Constitution, because its arrogance does not allow it to admit it has been imperfect all along. Only immature and insecure democracies can suffer from that blind arrogance. It is sad that this nation which inspired so many freedom movements the world over has degenerated to become an autocracy.
It is sad that a ‘democratic nation’ like India uses its armies to fire upon its own people whereas the Egyptian Army under a dictator developed humane conscience to refrain from killing its own people. What will it take for Indian forces to turn as humane as Egyptian Army? When will it sympathize with its own people and disobey the autocratic diktats of the rulers?
British in India used India’s diversity to their advantage. They treated India as a collection of nations and therefore created army for each region; and whenever necessary, they used one region’s army against another to rule this subcontinent. When India became independent, the Indian leaders saw strength in this concept which deserved merit. Since the armies are created along regional lines, it became apparent that it would be extremely difficult for converting this country into a military dictatorship. But that strength is now misused; and Indians have become worse than British when it comes to treating Indians.
Nowadays, India conveniently uses the armed forces from one region to quell freedom seeking agitations of another region. In 1969, India used forces from Malabar region to kill nearly 370 Telangana protestors, more than those dead in Tunisia or Egypt, arrested more than 70,000, and injured and maimed more than 15,000 to completely suppress a movement which sought a state within legal confines of Indian Constitution. In the current agitation, it brought in battalions from other regions to suppress the movement much to the elation of Samaikhyandhra activists.
Right now, as the events unfold in Tunisia and Egypt, the Telangana person wonders, what a sham is Indian democracy? The autocrats are within but we cannot do anything about it. What is our recourse to overthrow the autocratic regime of Seemandhras? Would a 2.5 million-people march help? Not really. Would 400 suicides help? Not really. Would hundreds of agitations and thousands of hunger strikes help? Not really.
That’s because we are sham democracy which pretends that we keep our people free, but in reality lets a privileged group to enslave the underprivileged group. Indian democracy is a farce, which blatantly protects the master clan by supplying armed forces, guns and lathis, to coerce and suppress the slave clan. As long as the master clan is big enough to supply the required number of elected leaders to keep the ruling party in power, it can almost do anything to the slave clan, ridicule it, enslave it, maim it, and discriminate it without any repercussions.
Democracy in India is no longer about fulfilling the democratic aspirations of its people. It is all about keeping the ruling party in power at any cost, even if it means killing, brutalizing, maiming and injuring one section of people to satisfy the greed and rapacious appetite of another.
It is a shame that Indian democracy has become this.
While the world celebrates as Tunisia and Egypt take on the path of freedom overthrowing the oppressors, the so-called greatest democracy in the world suppresses its own people when they try to overthrow the oppressors within.
On which side is India? On the side of Hosni Mubarak or the million people who marched for freedom? Innocent Indians may be on the side of the million people, but the Indian Government is clearly on the side of Hosni Mubarak when they support Seemandhra rulers in quelling the movement for self-rule of Telanganas.
For India to become a truly democratic country, it has to make amends right away. One of them is to immediately create Telangana and live up to the ideals it promised its people when this nation was formed sixty years ago.

Govt to re-examine data given to SKC

Looks like there is no end to the errors in SKC report. The Telangana electricity employees JAC (TEE-JAC) has prepared a 50-page report that the committee had not properly interpreted the data that was supplied to them by the government.
The employees had raised objections over the findings through proper channel following which the state government had asked the APTransco, APGenco and discoms whether the data given by them was misinterpreted in the report.
The power utilities also feel that the objections raised by the TEE-JAC has substance and are preparing a detailed report on it.

T-meet in a few days : Chidambaram

A decision on the next meeting of political parties on the Telangana issue to hear theirfinal views will be taken in the next few days, Home MinisterP Chidambaram said today.
The much-awaited meeting of eight political parties ofAndhra Pradesh could not be held so far due to his variousengagements in last one month, including a visit to Davos toattend the World Economic Forum meeting and the Republic Day.
“I intend to consult my senior colleagues and fix a date. We will fix a date in the next few days,” he said at a pressconference here.
Chidambaram said the meeting would give him anopportunity to hear the final views of the political partiesafter making available to them the full report of theSrikrishna Committee on the Telangana issue.
“It is necessary. When I said I will call the nextmeeting, they (the political parties who attended the Januarysix meeting) said yes, please call another meeting. Nextmeeting is necessary for them to give me their final views,”he said.
Asked whether all eight parties would attend the meetingas TRS, BJP and Telugu Desam Party did not attend the Januarysix meeting, the Home Minister said “I will invite all eightparties. I think you should advice all eight parties to attendthe next meeting”.
On whether a final decision on the Telangana issue wouldbe taken in the next meeting, he said “I don”t know…that maybe decided in the next meeting….suppose we invite anothermeeting”.
Chidambaram also dismissed suggestions that there was any delay in holding the meeting. “There is no reason for delay. Please remember that we had Republic Day and I was away and now I am back. Thereforeno delay,” he said.
The Home Minister avoided a question whether there is anytime-frame to decide the Telangana issue.

Political compulsion for ‘T’ – An imperative

Everything is happening in Telangana struggle, except the anticipated result. All kinds of hurdles are created by the opposition. Situation has become very dicey. Yet times it is becoming very difficult to know who the adversary is and who is the ally? Almost all political parties in the state have played this ally and adversary game in varying degree and are succeeding in pushing the result endlessly in to future. In the present episode after December 9, 2009, in the sea saw struggle the Congress party has emerged as the principal in the role of this double action of ally and adversary. After SKC Report, a Congress Party which had become an ally by its Decmber 9th announcement has turned its full circle and now is playing its dubious play of an adversary.
The principal actors in this drama are the troika of Congress high command (Mukherji, Moily&Patel), Andhra political mafia, Governor and CM.TheTelangana sidekicks are T-MPs.The script for the drama was made ready by Congress party well in advance of the SKC Report. That is why thousands of central forces were dispatched and deployed in Telangana region only. There is a strong reason to believe that, Congress high command with its tacit support has manipulated SKC Report through Andhra political mafia, to confound the ‘T’ issue and to play this present political drama. Because the government and the members of SKC are not reacting to the serious allegations of corruption and/or brazenly false and partisan observations / recommendations in the report. All these happenings make it very clear that they don’t want to take any decision on Telangana, if they can get away with it till 2014.The Governor is drafted specifically to ground this duplicitous plan and is used as the conduit. The CM was given the mandate by the high command, to implement this plan under the able guidance of the Governor. Some real and imaginary things like ‘Jagan factor’ and demand for separate states in other parts of the country are thrown in, to add some flavor. But actually, the game plan was hatched even before The Jagan factor came on to the scene. In case of Telangana it is a demerger not a division of  the state unlike the demand else wherein  a large country like ours, some factor or the other will be cropping  up at any given time, that does not mean that a sovereign union government can go back on its avowed promise  to 4 1/2 crore people.
As a strategy, they are manipulating T-congress elements – Ministers, MLAs and MPs in this game plan. The responses of different groups of these T-congress elements though varying, are working as per the strategy of Congress high command.T-Ministers are downright subservient to Congress Party. They are requesting T’people to make rachchbanda successful so that high command can be pleased. The MLAs follow suit, except a couple of them indulging in some cacophony of protest. Some MLCs are allowed to say something in support of Telangana as a diversionary tactic. The MPs are making all the right sounds at the right time, to beguile T’ people to take them beyond this budget session of Parliament without Telangana. The well orchestrated hunger strike of MPs for lifting cases against students is a pointer in this direction. Outwardly it might appear T-MPs are heroically fighting for Telangana, but it is of no consequence. Their effort lacks necessary purchase and the bite. They are excessively worried about the future of their party and Sonia Gandhi than the six decades old agony of their own Telangana people. They don’t want to resign their posts, to create a political compulsion for the high command. They are baulking at the goal post. They don’t have the necessary fire to ignite a political decision, when Telangana people have provided them with all the needed political fuel for the ignition. Their statement, as to make union government placing T-bill in the ensuing Budget session is an empty rhetoric. The T- Governor, CM and DGP pretend that the ongoing T’struggle can be managed and is of no consequence to them. The troika endorses the views of state administration. Sonia Gandhi a hostage to her coterie, keeps her head in the sand and wishes away Telangana problem and continues the dreaming of dynasty rule.Mr.M’Singh presides over union government and watches all this like a Zen Buddha. It is the scenario, while whole of Telangana is struggling endlessly for realizing their 54 year old desire of separate state.
The Congress high command is deliberately creating this political ‘battle of attrition’ and wishes to drag it till 2014.Unless an overwhelming political compulsion is created, they are not going to honor their decision of December 9, 2009.The hope of T-legislators coming to the rescue of T’ people appears to be almost nill. The lack of punch in the effort of T-MPs is disheartening. It is now the battle between Congress high command and people of Telangana. It is up to them to launch a ‘Gujjar’ style agitation or recreate’Bardoli’ in Telangana. For, nothing short of this, is going to break the sinister game plan of Congress high command.Telangana people have the necessary wherewithal  to create the necessary political compulsion  for the creation of Telangana state without the help of these ‘impotent politicians’.
Let us come together like in ’Mahagarjana’ and defeat this dubious game of Congress Party to get our promised Telangana State.

Badly chosen means badly behaved

Here is an interesting story from TOI about Narsimhan’s eligibility to be the governor of Andhra Pradesh
One had earned the notoriety of being the Congress party’s master fixer. Another had served as the national spy chief under UPA-I. The backgrounds of H R Bhardwaj and E S L Narasimhan have much to do with the demands in recent weeks for their recall as governors of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh respectively.
While Bhardwaj attracted the BJP’s ire for allegedly being overzealous in dealing with corruption allegations against its chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Narasimhan has lost the confidence of Telangana proponents not only from the Opposition parties but even from within Congress.
The latest charge against Bhardwaj is however debatable. He has his own, well-argued reasons for granting permission to prosecute Yeddyurappa for a land scam despite a state cabinet resolution asking him to reject the application filed by a lawyers’ forum. But then this clash came close on the heels of another fracas. Bhardwaj suffered the mortification of seeing his recommendation for President’s rule being rejected by the leaders of his erstwhile party at the Centre.
Narasimhan is alleged to have been equally proactive in dealing with the political and law and order aspects of the Telangana movement, taking advantage of the weak chief ministers who succeeded the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. The three-day visit he made to Delhi earlier this month, in the wake of the Sri Krishna report, roiled the Telangana camp. This because the former police officer gave his inputs to the prime minister, home minister and Congress party president.
Though the reasons for their being controversial are entirely different, Bhardwaj and Narasimhan have turned the spotlight, however unwittingly, on the reforms needed in the institution of governor. Narasimhan’s involvement in the political process of finding a solution to the Telangana issue has exposed him to the charge of being partisan and interfering in the domain of the elected government. Bhardwaj, for his part, made little effort to dispel the impression that he had been specially sent to unsettle the first-ever BJP government in the south.
The stink raised by their actions vindicates the criteria for selection of governors laid down by the Sarkaria Commission. More than two decades ago, this much-touted panel, which reviewed Centre-state relations, said that a person appointed governor should be:
* eminent in some walk of life
* from outside the state
* a detached figure and not too intimately connected with the local politics of the state and
* somebody who has not taken too great a part in politics generally, and particularly in the recent past.
Of these four criteria, the first is the hardest to contest in the cases in question. Both Bhardwaj, a former law minister, and Narasimhan, a former IB director, can claim to eminence in some walk of life. But it is questionable whether Narasimhan can claim to have fulfilled the criterion of being from outside the state. Though he is a native of Tamil Nadu, he was an IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre and had therefore spent a good part of his career in the state. As a corollary, the detachment required by the third criterion is in doubt as he can hardly claim to be a stranger to local politics.
As for Bhardwaj, his appointment as governor in 2009 violated the Sarkaria Commission’s fourth criterion. He had just ceased to be law minister in UPA-I and was hardly in a position to be passed off as “somebody who had not taken too great a part in politics in the recent past”. He might, however, draw comfort from the fact that there have been several such violations of the fourth criterion as successive governments at the Centre have found it convenient to give party members a break from active politics in some Raj Bhawan or the other.
Following up on the Sarkaria Commission’s suitability guidelines, the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) proposed an additional safeguard in 2002. It said that no governor should be appointed without consulting the chief minister of the state. Had such caution been observed in Karnataka, it is unlikely that Yeddyurappa would have reacted positively to Bhardwaj’s candidature.
Recurring allegations of misuse of the governor’s office across the country actually point to the need for a radical reform of the selection procedure. Though the governor is supposed to be an agent of the Union government, there is no reason for his selection to be left to its discretion. While cabinet selection has to remain the prerogative of the Prime Minister, the same can’t be said about gubernatorial positions.
In keeping with the transparent and participatory procedure adopted for appointing members to vital institutions such as the NHRC, CVC and CIC, the Centre would do well to set up a selection committee for governors consisting of all stakeholders. This is exactly what was suggested by the CRC in its consultation paper even though its final report settled for merely taking inputs from the chief minister. The time has come to make the selection of governors more democratic as part of larger constitutional reforms.

T-Ministers – Presently Our enemy No.1

Telangana Ministers in the state cabinet are showing their true colors in ‘Rachchabanda’.They are not in it because of the compulsion. These cronies are proactive and want to prove to ‘adhishtanam’ that they are more loyal than the king. The behavior of Sariah, Komatireddy, Ponnala, Danam in fact every single T-Minister in the program and their callous attitude towards protestors makes every Telanganite hang their heads in shame. Their behavior in the program reminds us the behavior of local henchmen of Nizam during ‘Razakar’ movement. They have perhaps acquired this syndrome from those infamous sycophants of Nizam, to retain their lucre and power. It explains the peculiar behavior of our T- ministers & legislators, in tangent with the 4 ½ crore Telangana people. But, this treachery has compromised our glorious struggle in the eyes of our adversary.
As was thought earlier, it is not wise to leave these elements to their natural political degeneration. They have caused and are causing inestimable damage to T-Struggle. In fact this group is the single largest factor holding up Telangana State formation, after 9th December 2009.Now in complicity with the state’s all andhra administration their game plan is, to complete this god forsaken ‘Rachchabanda’ and claim that the T-struggle is weakening. Raja Jaichand, the notorious traitor of our history must be turning in his grave uncomfortably by seeing these abominable actions of these traitors. The Center and State are using this handful of scum to complicate things for Telangana.
There is an urgent need to make this double-crossing gang ‘horse de combat’, to contain the damage and take the fight in to our opponents’ camp. We must devise a plan to hound and harass these goons with social and political boycott at every step. It should be our first priority in the civil disobedience, to make the political and social life of this group miserable. And make them incapable of helping the administration against Telangana.’Telangana vadulu’ at ground level should always stalk them and become the proverbial albatrosses around their neck.Kavulu & Kalakarulu should pen and sing in particular censuring the betrayal of this ‘prantha drohulu’ day in and day out. The front line organizers, should brain storm and devise ways to thwart them from doing their devious duty. Eventually they should be evicted from their ministerial berths. Then only we can feel safe, because presently they are our No.1 enemy.

Jai Bholo Telangana: Three cheers to Shankar

The saga of making this movie is like the story of Telangana itself. I was under the mistaken impression that the youth of this land is too addicted to movies and losing valuable time in this inconsequential exercise. Of late I came to realise that movies are the medium for the youth and it is their social idiom, a tool of social communication.
The recent struggle of the Telangana youth in blocking SA movies and forcing the censor board to unshackle the Jai Bholo Telangana for general release; and the passion and effort of the young director Shankar is evidence that Telangana youth is politicised and radicalised enough. They will not rest till they run their course of achieving telangana. No force in India can stop formation of Telangana.
Telangana bore the yoke for 60 years. Thanks to students and KCR for bringing the struggle to this stage. Gaddar’s participation has rendered a sort of completion to the structure and formation of the struggle. Jai bolo Telangana is the audio visual portfolio of this reality.
Where do we go from here? Once, KCR told in an interview that a senior IAS officer who was a co-passenger in a flight, had been a student leader in separation struggle for Haryana and that the media and Punjabis were spreading canards till the last minute to derail the formation of Haryana state. He advised KCR to be vigilant till the end. This is exactly what is needed at this juncture. Any laxity in the vigil and misstep will be counterproductive.
The soccer legend Diego Maradona’s strength was in his timing and controlling and varying the speed of the ball as an attacker and he always had the exclusive possession and the initiative with the ball. Telangana, KCR and TRS have the possession of the ball since last 10 years and exclusively since last one year. Congress always tried to steal it, whether by marshalling all its forces in the MP by-election in Karimnagar or KKR immediately accepting the resignation of the TRS MLA’s, Ratcha Banda, or obstacles created to our movie. Always At the end of their subterfuge Telangana emerged with added grit and steel. KCR is our Diego Maradona, Captain of our ship now. The structure and dynamic of the agitation is built so thoroughly that victory will be ours. We travelled from Mahboob-abad to Mahboob-nagar. Look at the spontaneity of Telanganites at Mahboob-nagar in disrupting chief minister’s meet. The urge for Telangana has become societal and cultural. Kanshiram once said that in the democratic politics of India one should have money, mafia and media. We shall build the street power to silence scum like Jaggareddy, Mukesh and Danam. We have Raj TV .We should complete acquiring our strategic assets of media by starting our very own news paper. Each one of us should generously contribute monies to the agitation in a legal way (like gifting a purse to Shankar).
The arsenal we built during last one year is phenomenal. It is like that of Pandavas during the “Agnatha vasam”. The students of the universities are fully charged up. The lawyers are in the forefront acting as rapid deployment force like they did at the censor board. Every village is raring to show its strength. It has shown what will be the outcome for congress if it misbehaves. Non-cooperation with the government, and boycotting andhra goods are the arsenal with which “SA’s Lagulu thadusthai”. Look at the boards put up in front of Andhra companies like heritage foods saying “Memu Telanganaku Anukoolame”.
There are only 5th and 6th options of SKC left for central government to go to. 6th will be as unwelcome to Andhra as much as 5th. If 6th is implemented (with constitutional protection) it will only help the kleptocratic and crony capitalistic SA elite but the andhra commoner will be unhappy. Common Andhrite will start separate andhra agitation seeking capital with in their territory. Case in point is how Lagadapati was slapped by a commoner in Krishna district. It is all win-win for us. With power and posturing we can tip Centre in our favour. Hence do not despair; ultimately, we can even go nuclear by KCR and Gaddar going on hunger strike, if it comes to that.
I do not think things will come to that pass. We should not jump the gun needlessly. Just trust KCR and follow him. In all probability Chidambaram will take the process of Telangana formation further by re-announcing it shortly. In the highly unlikely event of Telangana not being given willingly, it will be taken forcefully. In the process we will bury congress six feet deep along with TDP.
Finally three cheers to Shankar, the cultural comandante of Telangana who has moved the struggle for Telangana forward.
Thanks MK Rao for sharing
