A strong plea for an early resolution of the vexed Telangana issue was made by an AICC Secretary during a meeting of Congress office bearers with Rahul Gandhi today.
P Sudhakar Reddy raised the issue at the meeting and he later said that Gandhi assured him to look into it.
Another party Secretary V Hanumanta Rao, who also hails from the Telangana region, said that the party Vice President told Reddy to focus on organisational issues for which the meeting has been called.
The issue of separate state of Telangana has divided Andhra Pradesh on regional lines and party MPs from the region have threatened to tender their resignation to Speaker Meira Kumar if urgent steps are not taken to carve out the state from Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh is the only major state where the Congress is in power on its own and the spectacular showing there in the Lok Sabha polls helped the Congress to gain power at the Centre via the coalition route in 2004 and retain it in 2009.

Even as the support from Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar to the demand for Telangana has come as a big shot in the arm for the proponent of the separate State, Congress party continues to play the game of hide and seek on the issue.
Pursuing a zig-zag line AICC general secretary Vayalar Ravi on Friday said that the consultations were still on and he could not give any date for taking a decision. But he said another round of talks would take place on February 20.
After meeting two  Telangana Congress MPs, G Vivek and Madhu Yashki Goud who resigned, separately in New Delhi, Ravi said that the issue needs further discussion and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will also be asked to come to Delhi soon.
Significantly he said that if other parties come forward to support the Bill, the Congress was ready to move Telangana Bill in the Parliament.
On the resignation by the seven MPs of the region, he said that he understands the pressure they were facing and their sentiments. Denying that Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde had given a date for the decision by the Union Government, he said that the Centre had also not said that nothing would be done. Ravi said that discussions would also be held with the other MPs from the Telangana region.
Every day a new statement from the Congress leadership in New Delhi was adding to the confusion among the supporters of Telangana. PC Chacko, the official spokesperson of AICC said that the Congress was not against Telangana. However, he added the rider that first Andhra Assembly should pass a resolution to this effect, a demand always rejected by the proponents of Telangana saying that the deep divisions in AP Assembly make such a resolution impossible.

 Urging the Telangana people to boycott the Congress leaders from the region, the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) will launch a renewed separate statehood agitation on Monday, where the focus would be on putting pressure on the Telangana ruling party ministers to quitin view of the discouraging of the Congress-led UPA government on the issue.

According to the T-JAC, pro-T activists would obstruct the T-ministers from carrying out administrative duties and public activities. Releasing an eight-point agenda, for the agitation at the Samara Deeksha last Monday, the T-JAC appealed to people to boycott the Congress leaders till they quit the party and position in the government.

"The boycott is both political and social. People will not allow the ministers move around freely. T-JAC activists will stop the ministers from attending administrative duties as well as public activities such as meeting people. And this will continue till the ministers quit," said Pittala Ravinder, state co-coordinator of T-JAC.

There are thirteen ministers from Telangana in the Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet including deputy chief minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha and panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy. These ministers would be targeted with black flags and slogans.

While the main agitation would be at the Assembly constituencies of the ministers, demonstrations were also planned for the ten T-district headquarters and Hyderabad.

The final modalities of the agitation would be deliberated in a meeting of the steering committee of T-JAC on Sunday. Representatives of the constituent member parties of T-JAC including Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and New Democracy are scheduled to take part in the meeting.

While T-ministers would be targeted in the first phase, MLAs and MPs would face protests later, the T-JAC announced. "The agitation has been planned in phases. After concentrating on ministers and compelling them to quit, we will focus on MLAs and MPs. This time, the anti-Telangana political elements will surely taste the aggressiveness of the movement," said Pittala Ravinder.

While the T-JAC pledged to turn the Telangana movement into a militant struggle, Pittalla declined to confirm about demonstrations against the ministers as the beginning of it. He said, for a strategic reason he will not be able to divulge details of the plan.

Apart from targeting the Congress leaders, the T-JAC has planned to launch programmes to obstruct the functioning of the government machinery. While activists will lay siege to government offices and establishments, disconnect the power and water supply of government buildings, they also plan to block government employees from reaching their offices. A massive 'Chalo Assembly' would be launched in the month of March when the state Assembly meets for the budget session.
